Liverpool Targets Koundé as Transfer Market Heats Up
The transfer market hasn’t opened yet, but Europe’s giants are already trading jabs in the shadows.
Liverpool circle Koundé as defensive rebuild gathers pace
Liverpool are preparing a bold move for Barcelona’s Jules Koundé, with a bid of around $94 million (€80 million, £69 million) being lined up for the right back. For a club already in the middle of a defensive reset, that kind of fee signals intent: this is not tinkering, it’s surgery.
The Merseyside club are also pushing hard in midfield. An offer of $47 million (€40 million, £35 million) is being readied for RB Leipzig’s Assan Ouédraogo, though that figure is expected to fall short of the German side’s valuation. West Ham’s pursuit of Paris FC center back Moustapha Mbow has also run into trouble, with Liverpool emerging as serious rivals for the 26‑year‑old.
One saga cuts across all of this: Federico Chiesa. The Italian winger is described as so determined to leave Liverpool this summer that he is willing to take a pay cut to return to Serie A. If that door opens, Liverpool’s reshaping on the flanks will become as urgent as their work at the back.
United ready to outmuscle Atlético, Arsenal change targets
At Old Trafford, Manchester United have moved ahead of Atlético Madrid in the race for Atalanta midfielder Éderson. While Atléti are hesitating over Atalanta’s financial demands, United have made it clear they are prepared to meet the asking price. It’s a familiar pattern: when the numbers climb, United often choose to lean in rather than walk away.
Across north London, Arsenal’s striker search has taken a sharp turn. The Gunners have abandoned their pursuit of Atlético Madrid forward Julián Alvarez and are now preparing a huge bid of around $117 million (€100 million, £86 million) for Real Madrid’s Endrick. A club that has long talked about “the right opportunity” up front seems ready to pay elite‑level money to get it.
Arsenal’s recruitment drive doesn’t stop there. The club have held positive talks with the entourage of Newcastle United defender Tino Livramento over a summer move, as they look to deepen their options in the full‑back areas.
Chelsea cast a wide net, City prepare for Aké exit
Chelsea, never shy in the market, sent scouts to watch 22‑year‑old Club Brugge center back Joel Ordóñez at the weekend. With the squad already swollen, any defensive signing now would say plenty about how the club view their current options in the heart of defence.
At Manchester City, Nathan Aké is edging towards a summer exit. A return to the Eredivisie is seen as unlikely; the Dutch defender prefers a switch to Serie A, where AC Milan, Juventus and Roma are all interested. For a player who has quietly become a trusted part of Pep Guardiola’s rotation, his next move will be watched closely.
Tottenham, under Roberto De Zerbi, are plotting a very specific raid on Roma. The Spurs manager “will do everything” to land goalkeeper Mile Svilar and midfielder Lorenzo Pellegrini in a double deal, a move that would reshape both ends of his spine in one swoop.
Aston Villa, by contrast, are cooling on one of their long‑running targets. Interest in Fulham’s Harry Wilson has faded after a recent dip in form from the Welshman, a reminder that timing can be as decisive as talent in the transfer game.
PSG push for Cherki, blocked on Olise
In France, Paris Saint‑Germain are drawing up plans of their own. Manchester City midfielder Rayan Cherki has been identified as a priority target for the summer, a move that underlines PSG’s desire to refresh the creative core of their side.
They have hit a brick wall elsewhere. Approaches for Bayern Munich winger Michael Olise have been knocked back, not only for PSG but also for Premier League suitors Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester City. Bayern have no interest in selling, and for now the door is firmly shut.
Vinicius, Mbappé and the tension at Real Madrid
The most delicate storyline of the summer may yet belong to Real Madrid. Vinicius Junior is demanding strong assurances before signing a new contract. It is not just about salary. The Brazilian wants clarity on the next manager and concrete improvements in the club’s culture, having seriously considered leaving at points this season.
Inside the Bernabéu, there is concern at the very top. President Florentino Pérez is reported to have doubts about the dynamic between Vinicius and Kylian Mbappé, whose recent behaviour has upset several teammates. Significant offers for Mbappé would be listened to this summer, a remarkable stance given the scale of the effort that went into bringing him to Madrid.
Pérez’s “dream signing” is said to be Juventus winger Kenan Yıldız, a player who would add yet another layer of attacking flair to a squad already rich in forward talent.
Barcelona weigh options, count every euro
On the other side of Spain’s great divide, Barcelona are trying to stretch a tight budget as far as it will go. The club believe they can strike a double deal with Chelsea for left back Marc Cucurella and striker João Pedro for less than $117 million (€100 million, £86 million), a package that would plug gaps at both ends of the pitch.
Chelsea’s reluctance to do business over Pedro has forced a rethink. Barcelona have pivoted towards PSG striker Gonçalo Ramos as an alternative option through the middle, searching for value in a market that rarely offers it.
Anthony Gordon remains on their radar but firmly in the “nice to have” category. Newcastle’s demands of around $99 million (€85 million, £73 million), combined with the winger’s high wage expectations, put him well beyond Barça’s financial reach. Interest is real; the numbers are not.
So the board at Camp Nou juggle targets and spreadsheets, Real Madrid weigh egos and futures, and the Premier League’s heavyweights circle the same small pool of elite talent. The window has not yet opened, but the question is already sharp: who blinks first, and who dares to go all in?
