Liverpool's Transfer Priorities: Right Winger Needed More Than Left Option

Jamie Carragher has warned Liverpool that their transfer priorities are badly skewed, insisting the club “desperately” need a right winger rather than another option off the left.

With Liverpool opening talks with Paris Saint-Germain over Bradley Barcola, the focus has quickly turned to whether the 21-year-old could be the long-term successor to Mohamed Salah on the right of the front three. Carragher’s answer was blunt.

Asked on X by Sky Sports if Barcola could be Salah’s replacement, the former Liverpool defender shut the idea down instantly: “No, he plays on the opposite flank!”

For Carragher, the issue is not Barcola’s talent but his profile. The Frenchman is most comfortable attacking from the left, cutting inside onto his stronger foot. Liverpool are already loaded there.

“LFC currently have three players who could play from the left in Rio/Gakpo/Wirtz & no one who plays from the right,” Carragher pointed out, highlighting what he sees as a glaring imbalance in the squad.

The message is clear. While Liverpool explore a deal for Barcola, one of the club’s greatest modern servants believes the real hole in the squad remains on the opposite wing – and that any serious plan for life after Salah has to start there.
