Liverpool's Winger Hunt: Minteh and Mbaye Updates

Liverpool’s winger hunt is turning into one of the summer’s most tangled transfer plots – and patience is wearing thin on all sides.

Liverpool push hard for Minteh

With Mohamed Salah gone to Trabzonspor, Liverpool have thrown their energy into rebuilding the flanks. Victor Munoz has already arrived from Osasuna. Now the spotlight is fixed on Yankuba Minteh.

Gambian winger. High ceiling. High price.

Gambian journalist Foday Manneh reported on Friday that Liverpool have seen a second bid for Minteh rejected by Brighton after an opening offer of £50m was turned down. Even so, neither club has walked away. Both remain optimistic that a compromise will be found as talks roll on.

Manneh posted on X that a second Liverpool offer had been knocked back, while stressing that discussions are continuing and that both sides are hopeful of an agreement.

The story quickly gathered weight. Transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano backed up Manneh’s information, revealing that Liverpool and Minteh already have a “broad verbal agreement” on personal terms, with the player giving the green light to the Anfield project. Romano added that Brighton had rejected a £60m bid on Friday, but confirmed that negotiations are still active.

Liverpool have made their move. Minteh wants it. Brighton are holding the line on value. Something has to give.

Mbaye and Barcola grow restless

The Minteh chase doesn’t exist in isolation. Its outcome could reshape Liverpool’s plans for Ibrahim Mbaye – and the mood around the Paris Saint-Germain winger is shifting.

According to French outlet L’Equipe, relayed by Get French Football News, Mbaye is increasingly frustrated by the slow pace of talks between PSG and Liverpool. The same goes for his team-mate Bradley Barcola, who is also on Liverpool’s radar.

Both players, L’Equipe report, feel their transfer sagas have dragged on too long. Neither winger is expected to travel with Luis Enrique’s squad for PSG’s Ligue 1 opener against Rennes, a clear signal of uncertainty over their immediate future.

For Mbaye, the clock is ticking louder. With just ten days left in the window, the report suggests he could look elsewhere if Liverpool do not accelerate negotiations. The sticking point is clear: the fee.

A €20m stand-off

RMC Sport, as cited in the same report, claim Liverpool and PSG remain €20m apart in their valuation of Mbaye. PSG want €70m. Liverpool are prepared to go to €50m.

No middle ground yet. No breakthrough. Just a widening sense of impatience.

Liverpool’s reluctance to meet PSG’s price has already slowed progress and opened the door, at least in Mbaye’s mind, to alternative destinations. If the Minteh deal lands, that hesitation may harden into a decision.

Right now, the situation is brutally simple: Liverpool are trying to close one major winger signing while keeping another alive, all under the pressure of a ticking deadline and increasingly restless targets.

Something will snap first – the price, the patience, or Liverpool’s carefully laid plan for life after Salah.
