Luis Enrique Urges PSG to Equal Real Madrid's Champions League Threepeat
Paris Saint-Germain head coach Luis Enrique has set his sights on replicating the historic achievement of Real Madrid, who won the Champions League three times in a row. Having already secured two back-to-back European trophies with PSG, the Spanish manager insists there is no reason to stop their quest for continental dominance.
Targeting a Historic Milestone
The 56-year-old took charge at Parc des Princes in July 2023 and has since led PSG to consecutive Champions League victories along with three Ligue 1 titles. The reigning European champions began their title defense impressively with a 6-1 win over Slovan Bratislava last month.
Extra Motivation from Continental Success
Despite domestic and European triumphs, Enrique remains hungry for more. His team faces a tough schedule ahead, including clashes with Manchester City and his former club Barcelona, whom he managed to Champions League glory in 2015.
"We've won it [Champions League] twice in a row, but that's no reason to stop. We're built to play in the Champions League. We have an extra incentive: to try and achieve something that only Real Madrid has managed so far. It's a special goal," Enrique said on PSG’s official site.
On the competition, he added, "Man City and Barcelona are teams that love winning the Champions League. There are six, seven or eight teams capable of winning it. We’re one of them, but it’ll be tough and we’re not the clear favourites."
Contract Extension Raises Stakes
Enrique recently signed a contract extension until 2030, having guided PSG to 13 major trophies overall. He emphasized the winning mindset he brought to the club:
"Our primary goal when we arrived was to make history. The Champions League trophy was the most important. For me and the players, the desire to keep winning is essential at the highest level."
Speaking about his new deal, Enrique said, "I’ve extended my contract and now I’m under even more pressure to prove I can continue and that I want to win many more trophies for PSG. The aim stays the same: to win and keep winning."
Tough Tests Ahead
PSG’s resolve will be tested immediately as they visit Manchester City in the Champions League on 14 October 2026. Afterward, they host Barcelona on 20 October in Paris. These challenging matches against top contenders will show if the current champions can maintain their European supremacy.
