Maduka Okoye to Receive Udinese's Player of the Season Award

Super Eagles goalkeeper Maduka Okoye has been named Udinese’s Player of the Season for the 2025/26 Serie A campaign. The 27-year-old Nigeria international earned this recognition after a strong season featuring 10 clean sheets.

Acknowledgment at Galà del Calcio Triveneto

Okoye is set to be honored at the 26th Galà del Calcio Triveneto awards in Vicenza on Monday, October 12. While the ceremony will recognize his efforts, he is expected to miss the event due to a clash with Udinese’s Serie A match against Torino in Turin.

Season Overview and Challenges

After a rough start marked by a suspension linked to a yellow card incident during Udinese's game against Lazio in the previous season, Okoye bounced back impressively. He reclaimed his spot as the club’s first-choice goalkeeper and maintained it throughout the season.

  • Serie A appearances: 30
  • Clean sheets: 10
  • Notable streak: Three consecutive shutouts versus Genoa, Como, and AC Milan

National Team Competition

Despite his club success, Okoye faces stiff competition for the starting goalkeeper role with Nigeria’s Super Eagles. He was included in the squad for Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Madagascar and Guinea-Bissau but did not feature in either match, with manager Eric Chelle choosing Stanley Nwabali instead.

Okoye remains contracted with Udinese until 2028, providing a platform to continue improving and push for a regular spot with the national team.
