Manchester City Reject Barcelona's Opening Bid for Rodri

Manchester City have turned down an opening offer from Barcelona for World Cup winner Rodri, drawing a hard early line in what could become the summer’s defining midfield saga.

Barça’s first proposal, worth around £38.5 million ($52m), has been rejected, with City valuing their midfield anchor at close to £68m. Rodri, 30, has long been linked with a return to Spain. For a while, Real Madrid looked like the natural next step, especially after his dominance on the international stage. He became the metronome of a side built on control, tempo, and ruthless efficiency.

Then came the setback. A serious knee injury cut through his 2024/25 campaign, sidelining him for much of the season and forcing City to cope without the man who knits their structure together. That absence may have sharpened the sense, on both sides, that a natural turning point is approaching.
