Manchester City Signs Gerónimo Rulli on Two-Year Deal

Manchester City have brought Gerónimo Rulli back to the Etihad, completing the signing of the Argentina international goalkeeper from Marseille on a two-year contract.

City will pay around £1.7m for the 34-year-old, who has signed a deal running until June 2028 and will wear the No.28 shirt. He arrives as a direct replacement for James Trafford, after the England goalkeeper’s move to Leeds.

Rulli knows Manchester, at least from the inside of the training ground. He was on City’s books in the 2016/17 season but never made a first-team appearance before moving on to establish himself elsewhere in Europe.

This version of Rulli is very different. Battle-tested, decorated, and with a hefty CV.

Since leaving England, he has built a strong reputation across La Liga and beyond with Real Sociedad and Villarreal, and added further experience at Montpellier, Ajax and Marseille. His most iconic moment on these shores came in 2021, when he helped Villarreal beat Manchester United in the Europa League final, a night that etched his name into the memories of English fans.

On the international stage, Rulli has eight caps for Argentina and has been part of a golden era. He was in the squads that lifted the 2022 World Cup and the 2024 Copa América, adding major honours to a career that has steadily climbed rather than exploded.

Now he returns to Manchester with medals, miles and a very different status. City, for a modest fee, have added a seasoned winner to their goalkeeping group.
