Manchester City Faces Challenges in UEFA Champions League Opener

Manchester City will launch their UEFA Champions League campaign at the Estádio do Dragão tomorrow night without Jeremy Doku and Nico O'Reilly, leaving Enzo Maresca to juggle his options before a demanding opener against FC Porto.

City’s first step in a tricky league-phase draw already carried weight. Now it comes with two enforced absences. An open training session earlier today underlined the concern: Doku and O'Reilly were missing from the group, and the reasons are far from minor knocks.

Doku is still out with the calf injury he picked up against Arsenal in the FA Community Shield three weeks ago, an issue that has stalled his momentum at the start of the season. O'Reilly, meanwhile, suffered a back injury in the warm-up ahead of City’s 1-0 win over Coventry City on Saturday, cutting short his involvement before the game had even begun.

The pressure finally told when the travelling squad list for Porto dropped. Neither Doku nor O'Reilly made the cut, confirming they will take no part in tomorrow’s clash in Portugal.
