Manchester United Agrees £70m Deal for Carlos Baleba
Manchester United have pushed their summer rebuild up another gear, agreeing a deal worth up to £70m with Brighton for midfielder Carlos Baleba.
A breakthrough in talks came on Friday evening, clearing the way for the 22-year-old to undergo a medical ahead of his move to Old Trafford. Once that hurdle is cleared, United will add another powerful option to a midfield already reshaped in recent weeks.
The Cameroon international became a priority target this week as United moved to reinforce the centre of the pitch again after bringing in Andrey Santos from Chelsea and Youri Tielemans from Aston Villa. The message is clear: United want more legs, more energy, more control.
The package for Baleba is significant. United will pay an initial £65m, with a further £5m tied to performance-related add-ons. Brighton, true to form, have also secured a sell-on clause, protecting their long-term interest in a player they helped develop into a major Premier League asset.
United get their man. Brighton, once more, get their price.
The next question is how quickly Baleba can turn that investment into authority in the heart of United’s midfield.
