While the headlines circle around the hunt for a new midfielder and cover at left-back, United’s goalkeeping group is being stripped back and rebuilt. Two stoppers are heading for the exit, one permanently and one on a loan that carries a clear invitation to buy.
Vitek closing in on permanent Middlesbrough move
Radek Vitek is on the brink of leaving Old Trafford for good. Middlesbrough have moved to secure the 20-year-old on a permanent deal, with both talkSPORT and journalist Ben Jacobs reporting that an agreement is close.
Jacobs wrote on X that Middlesbrough are “close to signing Manchester United goalkeeper Radek Vitek,” noting the Czech youngster is chasing regular first-team minutes after spending last season on loan at Bristol City. talkSPORT echoed that line, describing Boro as “closing in” on the transfer.
The fee remains under wraps for now, but previous reporting from the Daily Mail suggested United would look for around £10m to part with the highly rated keeper this summer. If the final number lands anywhere near that mark, it would represent a strong return for a player yet to make a competitive senior appearance for the club.
For Middlesbrough, it is a statement of intent: a long-term bet on a modern, developing goalkeeper. For United, it is another decisive step in trimming a bloated squad and raising funds for the rebuild in midfield and at left-back.
Bayindir to Celta Vigo: ‘here we go’
If Vitek’s exit is about potential, Altay Bayindir’s move is about opportunity lost.
Fabrizio Romano confirmed on Wednesday morning that Celta Vigo have struck a deal with United to take Bayindir on loan. The agreement includes a €4m buy option, with the final figure tied to his number of appearances for the Spanish side.
“Here we go,” Romano wrote, adding that Bayindir has been authorised to travel for his medical and to complete the contract signing.
The Turkey international arrived at Old Trafford with the task of pushing for the No 1 spot. He leaves, at least temporarily, having barely laid a glove on it. Game time never truly materialised, and with United resetting their goalkeeping hierarchy, Celta Vigo offers a fresh stage and the chance to reassert his credentials.
