Manchester United Injury Woes: Amad Diallo and Mason Mount Updates
Manchester United’s week has gone from bad to worse.
Barely days after a flat opening-day defeat to Hull City, the club has been hit with another blow behind the scenes, with Amad Diallo now expected to miss around six weeks through injury.
The winger, who had been tipped to play a significant role this season, picked up the problem in training. A well-sourced United insider, speaking via UtdDistrict, revealed that initial scans suggest a layoff of up to a month and a half, ruling Amad out of a crucial early stretch of the campaign.
He was already a surprise absentee from the travelling squad for the season opener at the MKM Stadium. Now the picture is clearer – and far more worrying for United. If the current prognosis holds, Amad may not make his first appearance of the 2026/27 season until the start of October.
Mount concern grows
The timing could hardly be worse. Amad’s setback lands just days after confirmation of Mason Mount’s own injury.
Mount suffered a hamstring issue in United’s pre-season clash with Paris Saint-Germain, an untimely strain that kept him out of the remaining friendlies and the defeat to Hull. It adds another chapter to a frustrating pattern for the 27-year-old, who has yet to complete a fully fit season since joining the club in 2023.
Inside the club, there is some hope that Mount’s problem is on the lighter side of the hamstring scale. United will monitor his involvement in training across the week, with coaches and fans alike watching closely for signs that he might be available when Old Trafford opens its doors for the first home game of the new league campaign.
Treatment room filling up
The injuries do not end there.
Matthijs de Ligt is still sidelined as he continues his recovery from the back injury that cut short his 2025/26 season back in November. His absence leaves a sizeable hole in United’s defensive options at a time when stability at the back is badly needed.
Carlos Baleba, whose move to United is described as imminent, will not be able to hit the ground running either. The midfielder is nursing ankle ligament damage sustained in pre-season with Brighton and Hove Albion, meaning that even once his transfer is finalised, he faces a wait before he can make his debut.
For a squad already under scrutiny after a limp start, the mounting casualty list is a serious complication.
Six days to reset
United now have six days to regroup, reset and somehow find momentum before Ipswich Town arrive at Old Trafford on Sunday. Another newly-promoted side, another early-season test, but this time in front of a home crowd that will demand a response.
By then, supporters will expect more than whispers and insider updates. They will want clarity from the club on Amad’s condition, and a firm indication of Mount’s readiness.
The season has barely begun, and already United are juggling form, fitness and frustration. How long can they keep their ambitions intact while key players watch from the sidelines?
