Manchester United are ramping up efforts to keep prolific academy striker JJ Gabriel amid serious interest from Chelsea and a host of European clubs.
Fresh from a busy summer that has already brought Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans to Old Trafford, United are now fighting a battle on a different front: protecting one of the brightest prospects in their youth ranks.
United dig in over JJ Gabriel
At just 15, Gabriel is already a headline name inside Carrington. The forward has smashed in 29 goals in 32 games for United’s U18s, a staggering return that has quickly turned him from promising prospect into priority asset.
That kind of form never stays secret for long.
Chelsea, according to TEAMtalk, have emerged as the strongest external suitors, leading a pack that includes several Premier League and European heavyweights. They see Gabriel as a potential long-term solution in attack and are positioning themselves accordingly.
United, though, are not standing still. The club are described as “pushing for an agreement” over a new deal and are said to be “confident” they can tie him down once he is eligible to sign scholarship terms in October.
By then, the noise around his future is expected to grow louder. United want it settled before that happens.
Internally, the message is bullish. The club believe Gabriel’s “extraordinary rise” should continue in Manchester and are working to make sure Old Trafford, not Stamford Bridge or anywhere else, is the stage for his next steps. For a player already labelled as one of the most coveted young forwards in the game, this is as much a statement of intent as it is a contract negotiation.
Eyes on Nicolo Tresoldi as striker search continues
While United work to secure tomorrow’s goalscorer, they are also chasing firepower for today.
Michael Carrick still wants another striker to complement his reshaped midfield and attacking options, and attention has turned towards Club Brugge forward Nicolo Tresoldi. Caught Offside report that United have “stepped up their interest” in the 21-year-old, whose name is circulating at the top end of the market.
Tresoldi is “firmly on the radar” of Manchester United, Chelsea, Tottenham, and Barcelona, with his price expected to land in the €45–50 million bracket – around £43m. In a summer skewed by inflated fees, that figure is being viewed as relatively reasonable for a front-line option with his profile.
Barcelona are currently regarded as favourites. They are said to be accelerating their move after the departure of Robert Lewandowski, searching for a new focal point to lead their attack. The problem is money. Meeting Brugge’s demands could prove difficult for the Spanish side, which keeps the door open for Premier League clubs circling in the background.
Industry sources cited in the report suggest that Chelsea, United, and Spurs are all increasingly looking at Tresoldi as a serious option, sensing value where other deals have spiralled.
So United find themselves juggling two very different but equally telling battles: one to keep hold of a 15-year-old goal machine already tearing up youth football, the other to land a £43m striker ready to deliver now.
If they win both, the future of their forward line – short-term and long-term – starts to look very different.
