Marc Guiu's Chelsea Exit: Napoli Leads Race for Young Striker
Marc Guiu is edging towards the Chelsea exit door, with Napoli pushing hard to win the race for the young striker before the transfer deadline slams shut.
The 20-year-old is weighing up three concrete proposals, with clubs from Italy, Spain and Germany all on the table. Some want him on loan, others are ready to buy. The decision now rests with Guiu.
Napoli circle as Chelsea clear the decks
Napoli are exploring a permanent deal for Guiu, who scored three goals in 16 appearances across all competitions in his first season at Stamford Bridge. They see opportunity where Chelsea see expendable depth.
The Serie A side are already deep in negotiations with the Blues over Benoit Badiashile, who is set to join on an initial season-long loan, and their recruitment drive in west London does not stop there. Napoli also sounded out a move for Nicolas Jackson, but Chelsea’s £65million valuation has cooled that interest.
Guiu, signed from Barcelona in 2024 for £5m, is now valued at around £25m despite limited minutes in blue. For a La Masia graduate once tipped as a long-term project, the message from Chelsea’s new era is blunt.
No shirt number, no future
Xabi Alonso has made his stance clear. Guiu is not part of his first-team plans this season. He was not even handed a squad number ahead of Chelsea’s opening Premier League fixture against Fulham on Monday night.
The club are actively trimming a bloated squad in the final week of the window, and the cull is focused on the forward line. Jackson, Guiu and Liam Delap are all available as Alonso reshapes his attack.
Jackson is not short of admirers. Aston Villa and Atletico Madrid are among a cluster of clubs monitoring his situation, though the fee required remains a major hurdle.
Delap, meanwhile, has his own queue. Everton, Nottingham Forest and former club Ipswich are all keen, while Serie A side Como have joined the chase after already taking Trevoh Chalobah from Chelsea earlier in the window.
Chelsea have set a bold £50m asking price for Delap, despite the 23-year-old scoring just two goals across all competitions last season. They paid £30m to beat Manchester United to his signature last summer and want a clear profit. Ipswich are also watching closely, having inserted a sell-on clause when they sold him to Chelsea.
Joao Pedro the main man
All of this movement points in one direction: Joao Pedro as the undisputed spearhead of Alonso’s attack.
The Brazilian has been electric since arriving from Brighton last summer and has now been rewarded with a new contract running to 2034, complete with a pay rise and upgraded terms. Chelsea are building their forward line around him.
As Joao Pedro’s status hardens, Guiu’s future drifts further away from Stamford Bridge. With Napoli and others at the door, the next move in his career feels imminent – and it is increasingly unlikely to be in Chelsea blue.
