Martin Sherif Charged by FA for Betting Rule Breaches

Everton forward Martin Sherif has been charged by the Football Association over alleged breaches of betting regulations spanning a 15‑month period.

The 20-year-old is accused of placing 61 bets on football matches between 20 November 2024 and 12 February 2026, in a case that drags another young professional into the sport’s tightening disciplinary net on gambling.

“Martin Sherif of Everton FC has been charged with breaching the FA's betting rules,” the governing body said. “It's alleged that the player breached FA Rule E1.2 in respect of 61 bets placed on football matches between 20 November 2024 and 12 February 2026. Martin Sherif has until Monday 17 August to provide a response.”

The clock is now ticking. Sherif must respond to the charge by Monday, 17 August.

Career Progression

Born in Liberia, Sherif joined Everton’s youth system in 2019 and steadily climbed through the ranks before beginning to train with the first team in early 2025. His progress had marked him out as one of the more intriguing attacking prospects at the club’s academy.

His senior experience so far has come away from Goodison Park. Last summer he moved to League One side Rotherham United on loan, scoring twice in 10 games before a run of injuries cut that spell short and triggered his recall in December.

Everton sent him back out again in February, this time to Port Vale for the rest of the campaign. He again found the net twice, this time across 17 League One appearances, in a season that ended in relegation for Vale.

Now, instead of focusing solely on the next step in his development, Sherif faces a different kind of scrutiny — one that could shape the trajectory of a career still in its early chapters.
