Why Mikel Arteta's Arsenal Setup Surpasses Barcelona and Manchester City

Anders Limpar, once an Arsenal player, believes that Mikel Arteta won’t be tempted to leave the Gunners for clubs like Barcelona or Manchester City. Yet, he warns that managing a squad packed with elite players will challenge Arteta like never before.

Arsenal’s Elite Status Makes Leaving Unlikely

Limpar insists there is no need for Arteta to look beyond Arsenal. The North London club has secured a spot among Europe’s finest, consistently competing across multiple tournaments. The club’s strong backing in the transfer market further cements its appeal, making Arteta’s position one of the best managerial roles globally.

Speaking with SveaCasino, Limpar said Arteta already enjoys near-perfect conditions at Arsenal, highlighting the club’s rising profile as a reason to stay.

"Why would Mikel Arteta ever leave Arsenal when they can sign the best players in the world? They are the best or second-best team in Europe," Limpar said. "Everybody wants to come and play for Arsenal now. We are a massive club nowadays."

He added that Arsenal’s ambition to win the Premier League and progress deep into all four competitions attracts top talent. He pointed out the quality of the squad, noting that only top-tier players fit into Arteta’s system.

"To win the Premier League and go so deep into all four competitions, everyone wants to play for a club that could win the quadruple," Limpar explained. "Look at the players he already has! They are all very good players. If you’re only a good player, you won’t fit in at Arsenal. Go and play for Brighton or Fulham or whoever."

Limpar argued that even compared to Barcelona or Manchester City, Arteta won’t find a better setup than what he currently commands at Arsenal — a club that keeps strengthening its roster.

The Challenge of Managing a World-Class Squad

Despite praising Arsenal’s growth, Limpar cautioned that keeping a squad full of star players satisfied will be a major test for Arteta this season.

"To have a world-class team, you need ten world-class outfield players, but you also need more than ten world-class players who are on the bench or don’t even play," Limpar said. "This is the hardest job for a manager. It was hard for the likes of Pep Guardiola and Jurgen Klopp. It will be hard for Mikel Arteta too to keep his squad happy. That’s the hardest thing."

He believes Arteta must become a master of psychology to maintain harmony and motivation within such a competitive group.

"Arteta’s real job only starts now. He has to be a master psychologist if he is to keep everyone engaged under his umbrella," Limpar added.

Limpar went on to describe the difficulty managers face handling injuries, suspensions, and form dips while keeping players eager to prove themselves.

"It’s a tough business to be a manager at a top club, I can tell you that, but this has been Mikel Arteta’s dream — to have the ten best players available every game. There will be injuries, red cards, and changes in form. If you look at the bench at those moments and the players are still not happy, it doesn’t matter who you are."

He highlighted the importance of players channeling frustration positively, showing determination regardless of their role.

"The players need to come on thinking ‘I am going to run for that mother f***er and show him’ — that’s where the psychology of football comes in when you’re a danger. He’s in a dangerous position if he gets it wrong."

Arsenal’s Pre-Season Momentum

Arsenal have started preparing for the new season strongly. Their pre-season began with a convincing 4-1 win over Girona, setting a positive tone ahead of the campaign.

The squad will focus on fitness and tactical work before upcoming friendlies against Real Betis in Dublin on August 5, followed by matches versus Borussia Dortmund and Como at the Emirates Stadium.
