Milan Rejects Coventry's €10 Million Bid for Loftus-Cheek

Milan have slammed the door on Coventry City’s move for Ruben Loftus-Cheek, turning down a €10 million offer and sending a clear early message about their plans for the new season.

The Premier League newcomers had marked the 30-year-old as a marquee signing to anchor their return to the top flight. They went in with intent and with a familiar face in the dugout: Frank Lampard, the manager who once helped shape Loftus-Cheek’s best spells at Chelsea and was eager to reunite with him in the West Midlands.

The answer from Milan was immediate and uncompromising.

The Rossoneri rejected the bid outright and, according to Tuttosport, have no intention of entertaining a sale at this stage. The stance isn’t just about numbers on a balance sheet. It’s about Rúben Amorim and the blueprint he is trying to lay down at San Siro.

Amorim draws a line

Amorim, newly installed and already exerting strong influence on squad decisions, personally intervened to block the move. For him, Loftus-Cheek is not a luxury piece. He is a core component.

The Portuguese coach values the Englishman’s tactical flexibility, particularly his ability to operate between the lines in the system Amorim wants to impose. That versatility, the capacity to shift roles and zones without losing impact, has turned Loftus-Cheek into a non-negotiable figure in the project.

Once Amorim’s stance was made clear, any notion of a summer exit was effectively shut down. Coventry’s proposal never got close.

Lampard reunion on ice

The decision kills off what would have been one of the more intriguing subplots of the window: Loftus-Cheek linking back up with Lampard. The two worked closely at Stamford Bridge, where Lampard often trusted the midfielder in advanced roles and pushed him to exploit his physical power and timing in the final third.

Lampard’s Coventry, fresh from promotion and in need of proven Premier League-level quality, saw Loftus-Cheek as a statement signing. Instead, the club are forced back into the market while the player prepares for another season in Serie A.

Established force at San Siro, contract ticking down

Loftus-Cheek is now heading into his fourth consecutive campaign in Italy. Signed from Chelsea in 2023 for €19 million, he has grown into a reliable, physically imposing presence in Milan’s midfield, blending power with enough technical quality to influence games in tight central areas.

That on-pitch importance clashes with a more awkward reality off it. His contract at San Siro runs for less than a year, and there is no agreement yet on an extension. Milan’s refusal to sell this summer keeps him in Amorim’s hands for the 2026-27 season, but it also opens up a clear risk: lose him for nothing next year.

The club’s hierarchy now face a familiar dilemma. Either move quickly to secure a renewal and protect an asset the coach clearly considers vital, or gamble on a season of stability on the pitch while his market value drips away.

For now, Loftus-Cheek stays where he is, central to Amorim’s plans and off-limits to Lampard. The next move belongs to Milan’s executives — and the clock on his contract is already ticking.
