Milan Targets Breel Embolo Amidst Attack Reshuffle
AC Milan have turned their attention to Breel Embolo as they prepare for a possible shake-up in attack, but they are far from alone in the chase for the Switzerland striker.
Rennes’ forward has emerged as the latest target for Rúben Amorim’s frontline, with Milan opening initial talks with Embolo’s agent to test the waters: is a deal realistic, and at what price? For now, the conversation stops there. There has been no direct contact with Rennes, who value the 27-year-old at around €15m and hold him under contract until 2029.
The numbers are clear. So is the player’s stance. Embolo, who impressed at the recent World Cup, has already indicated he is open to a return to Italy, a detail that has not gone unnoticed among clubs looking for a proven, mobile striker.
A crowded market for a coveted striker
He will not be short of options.
Napoli, now led by Massimiliano Allegri, also have Embolo on their shortlist as they plan their own attacking rebuild. From England, Bournemouth are keeping tabs as well, and the Premier League is understood to be a destination Embolo would welcome. His profile has been admired in Serie A for some time, with Juventus and Roma among the clubs to have previously tracked him, even if that interest never crystallised into a move.
This time, the competition feels more immediate. Three clubs, three different leagues, one attainable fee, and a player ready to move.
Milan and Napoli must sell before they strike
For Milan and Napoli, the path to Embolo runs through their current forwards.
At San Siro, everything hinges on Rafael Leão. Milan have yet to receive an offer they consider acceptable for the Portuguese star and remain firm on their valuation of €50m. Until that figure lands on the table, their room to manoeuvre in attack is limited, even with a relatively modest €15m price tag on Embolo.
Napoli face a similar constraint with a different name. Sporting director Giovanni Manna is working to find Romelu Lukaku a new club, a necessary step before Allegri can reshape his attack and move decisively for a new striker. As long as Lukaku’s future remains unresolved, Napoli’s interest in Embolo sits in a holding pattern.
A separate trigger for Milan: the Giménez factor
There is, however, another lever Milan can pull.
Santiago Giménez is among the players who could leave, and his departure would change the equation. If the Mexican forward exits, Milan may decide to go for Embolo regardless of what happens with Leão. That scenario would allow the Rossoneri to act more aggressively, turning a tentative idea into a concrete move even without a blockbuster sale.
For now, Embolo remains a name on lists and in conversations rather than on a plane. But the framework is already in place: a defined valuation, a willing player, and three clubs circling.
