One Key Signing Each Premier League Club Needs Before Transfer Window Closes

The transfer window edges closer to its September 1 deadline, and every Premier League club is still looking to strengthen. Despite the disruption caused by the World Cup, teams have been active, but many still face gaps in their squads heading into the new season.

Here’s one position each Premier League club must focus on filling before the window shuts.

Arsenal — Central Midfielder

Though Arsenal’s pursuit of Vinícius Júnior makes headlines, their central midfield demands more urgent reinforcement. Last season, too much responsibility fell on Declan Rice, who showed signs of exhaustion at the World Cup. Martín Zubimendi’s form dipped late last season, Myles Lewis-Skelly is yet to be fully trusted, and Mikel Merino serves better as an impact substitute. Offensive options like Martin Ødegaard, Eberechi Eze, and Kai Havertz cover attacking midfield, but Arsenal need another box-to-box midfielder to share duties with Rice. Bruno Guimarães of Newcastle is the prime target.

Aston Villa — Left Back

Villa may lose Lucas Digne back to PSG, leaving Ian Maatsen as the sole left back. Though promising, Maatsen’s presence alone won’t suffice as the club competes again in the Champions League. Another left back signing is vital for depth and balance.

Bournemouth — Winger

Bournemouth’s wide attacking options look thin, with only Rayan attracting significant attention amid interest from top European clubs and Saudi Arabia. Ben Gannon-Doak, David Brooks, and Amine Adli offer little inspiration, and with Europa League fixtures ahead, strengthening the wing positions is a must. Although right back is also a concern, Juanlu Sánchez’s impending arrival eases that issue.

Brentford — Left Back

Injury-prone Rico Henry cannot be relied upon this season, and Keane Lewis-Potter isn’t a natural left back. Brentford need a dependable and conventional left back to shore up their defense.

Brighton & Hove Albion — Striker

Danny Welbeck’s departure to Chelsea leaves Brighton without an experienced striker after he netted 13 Premier League goals last term. The young forwards on their books are unproven at this level, so adding a clinical striker is essential, especially with Conference League commitments.

Chelsea — Goalkeeper

Despite Robert Sánchez’s improvement, Chelsea need a stronger goalkeeper to push higher ambitions. The club’s attempts to sign an elite shot-stopper have cooled this summer, but securing one remains critical.

Coventry City — Left Back

After moving to finalize Carl Rushworth’s permanent signing as goalkeeper, Coventry will focus on adding a left back. They require a seasoned defender to counter some of the league’s most dangerous right wingers, alongside a potent striker.

Crystal Palace — Center Back

Palace are short in central defense after losing Marc Guéhi and Maxence Lacroix. Chris Richards, Chadi Riad, and Jaydee Canvot remain, but at least one or two center backs must arrive to stabilize the backline.

Everton — Defensive Midfielder

While a striker remains a possibility, Everton’s bigger priority is defensive midfield following Idrissa Gana Gueye’s free transfer departure. Hayden Hackney has arrived but lacks the enforcer role Everton requires to protect their defense.

Fulham — Winger

With Harry Wilson and Samuel Chukwueze gone, Fulham’s options on the wings are limited to Oscar Bobb and Kevin, neither of whom have impressed. Securing a fast, effective winger is crucial.

Hull City — Winger

Hull City, having made several signings, still lack star wingers. Leon Bailey is likely to join, but further reinforcements on the flanks are necessary to compete effectively.

Ipswich Town — Central Midfielder

Ipswich have recruited heavily but still seek a central midfielder. A deal for Florentino Luís looks near completion, but fitness concerns highlight the need for additional midfield reinforcements.

Leeds United — Striker

Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s injury record means Leeds need a reliable striking partner to avoid over-reliance on him. Lukas Nmecha and Joël Piroe can fill in but aren’t long-term solutions.

Liverpool — Winger

Replacing Elliot Anderson after his move to Manchester City is crucial for Forest. Lucas Bergvall from Tottenham is favored, but expensive, so foreign alternatives might be sought despite risks.

Despite signing Thomas Meunier at right back, Sunderland’s aging left backs Reinildo and Arthur Masuaku are insufficient. With European competition ahead, upgrading this position is a priority along with adding a winger.

Tottenham Hotspur — Winger

Spurs acted quickly in midfield but still lack depth on the wings. Injuries to Dejan Kulusevski and Wilson Odobert leave Mathys Tel, Mohammed Kudus, and Manor Solomon as options, with Solomon possibly leaving. An explosive winger would greatly improve the squad.
