Penybont 1-0 Colwyn Bay: Pritchard's Key Goal Extends Unbeaten Run

Penybont’s unbeaten start to the Cymru Premier season survived a bruising afternoon and a bruising start to the match.

They lost both summer signings Jonathan Leko and Ryan Hill to injury inside the first 20 minutes, a double blow that briefly sucked the noise out of the home crowd and left Rhys Griffiths reshuffling far earlier than planned.

The response was sharp.

One of those early replacements, Owain Pritchard, seized his moment. When Colwyn Bay keeper Mark Halstead misjudged a ball in his area, Pritchard reacted quickest, snapping up the loose chance from close range to fire Penybont into the lead.

The goal changed the mood and almost changed the scoreline again. Veteran forward Chris Venables, still a menace in the box, came within inches of doubling the advantage when his effort crashed against the crossbar, Halstead beaten.

Colwyn Bay refused to fold. Chasing the game after the break, they pushed higher and asked questions of the Penybont back line. Young goalkeeper Daniel Higgs had the answers, standing tall to deny both Callum Bratley and Ethan Roberts as the visitors hunted an equaliser.

The pressure grew, but Penybont dug in. Griffiths’ side saw out the late surge, protected their slender lead, and with it stretched their unbeaten league start while climbing to sixth — a gritty statement that this squad can take a punch and still find a way to win.
