Peter Okidi Joins KCB Football Club as Assistant Coach

Peter Okidi is back in the FKF Premier League – and this time, he joins a dugout built to challenge.

KCB Football Club on Friday confirmed the former Shabana head coach as their new assistant coach, handing him a key role alongside seasoned tactician Robert Matano for at least the 2026–2027 campaign.

“The Bankers” made the announcement with clear intent, underlining Okidi’s “wealth of coaching experience” and the journey he has carved across Kenyan football. It is a step up in profile, and a timely one.

Okidi’s last stop was brief. After mutually parting ways with Shabana in March, he took over at National Super League side Mombasa United, replacing the dismissed Gilbert Selebwa. The stint lasted just two months, but it kept him in the rhythm of competition and on the radar of top-flight clubs.

Now he walks into a very different project.

A growing résumé meets a rising ambition

Okidi’s coaching path has been steadily building towards a stage like this. He first came into wider focus with Nakuru All Stars in 2013, later taking charge of Nakuru Bucks and earning national team experience with the Kenya U15 boys’ side. Those roles have hardened his reputation as a coach comfortable with both development and results.

At KCB, that blend matters. The club is not just looking to stay competitive; they are openly chasing their first-ever Premier League crown next season. Bringing in Okidi to deputize Matano signals a deliberate move to deepen the technical bench with coaches who know the local game inside out.

The changes do not stop there. KCB have also moved to strengthen specialist departments that often decide tight title races. Former Gor Mahia goalkeeper trainer Boniface Oluoch has come in as the new goalkeeper coach, tasked with sharpening a critical position for a side with title aspirations.

Alongside him, the club has added Tobby Owino as Video Analyst, bolstering their performance and analysis arm. It is the kind of appointment modern contenders make: every match cut, every pattern studied, every weakness hunted.

Put together, these are not cosmetic tweaks. They are the pieces of a club building a serious tilt at history.
