Peter Slams Team Selection Leak as Threat to ADO's Tactics

Head coach Peter has slammed the leak of his team selection online, calling it a direct threat to his side’s tactical plans and the club’s long-cherished open-door culture.

Speaking to Dutch outlet Algemeen Dagblad, Peter did not hide his irritation after details from training were posted on social media almost instantly.

"I don't know who it was, but in any case someone, or a few people, posted information online immediately," he said. "That makes keeping training sessions open completely pointless for us."

For a club that prides itself on accessibility, closing sessions to supporters is a drastic step. Peter insists he has been left with no alternative.

"I have no idea if this happened last year as well, but this time I knew it was posted online straight away," he explained. "We want everyone to be able to come and watch training, but that information has to stay inside the complex. That didn't happen, so we have to close the doors."

The decision casts a shadow over what should be a celebratory occasion. ADO are finally back on Eredivisie home soil, preparing for their first top-flight match in front of their own fans in five years. A sold-out crowd awaits on Sunday afternoon, the anticipation sharpened by the need for a response.

Last weekend’s return to the big stage ended in a sobering 2-0 defeat to AZ. ADO held out until the break, only for second-half goals from Ro-Zangelo Daal and Calvin Stengs to decide the contest and leave Peter’s side empty-handed on opening day.

Now comes FC Groningen on matchday two, an opponent riding a very different wave. Groningen arrive "brimming with momentum" after edging past FC Utrecht in their curtain-raiser, and they look every inch a side intent on making an early statement.

Peter, though, is not bracing for chaos. He wants clarity, intensity, and a proper football match.

"I don't expect any surprises and I'm hoping for an open game played at high intensity by both teams," he said, parking the leak row to focus on the pitch.

Team news offers a mixed picture for the hosts. Jalen Hawkins remains sidelined with a hamstring problem, while Cameron Peupion is still a long-term absentee following knee surgery. Both miss out on the homecoming.

There is encouragement in goal: Niclas Thiede has returned to full training after an ankle injury and is back in contention. Cagliari loanee Othniel Raterink is also pushing his way into the frame and could make the bench as he continues to build match fitness.

So the scene is set: a full house, a team searching for its first points of the season, a coach forced to shut the gates to protect his plans, and an in-form Groningen side ready to test the resolve of a club desperate to re-establish itself in the Eredivisie.
