Porto and Roma Negotiations Stalled Over Rodrigo Mora
Roma and Porto have hit a wall over Rodrigo Mora – and the numbers explain why.
Yesterday morning, Porto abruptly cut off negotiations after Roma pushed back hard against the conditions attached to the young forward’s buy clause. The Portuguese club have set a brutal price of admission: a €10 million loan fee, a €40 million purchase option loaded with clauses that could quickly turn it into an obligation, plus performance-related bonuses and a sell-on percentage on any future transfer.
Roma’s answer was simple: no.
The Giallorossi consider the package excessive, especially given how easily the option could become an obligation under the current framework. That resistance has cranked up the tension between the clubs, with Portuguese outlet Ojogo describing a strained atmosphere around the talks.
Yet the move is not dead.
Super-agent Jorge Mendes has stepped in as mediator, trying to bridge the gap between Porto’s demands and Roma’s financial stance. Even so, there were no direct contacts between the two clubs yesterday, a clear sign that both sides are digging in for now rather than edging closer.
So the negotiation has boiled down to a stark choice for Roma. Either they accept Porto’s conditions as they stand, or they return to the table with an improved structure for the obligation to buy that can convince the Dragoes to soften their stance.
The next move belongs to the Giallorossi.
