Premier League Clubs' Spending in the 2026/27 Transfer Window

Chelsea have already spent more than £290 million this summer, leading the way in transfer expenditures.

The Premier League transfer window is alive with activity as all 20 clubs prepare for the upcoming season. Teams aim to fix squad weaknesses by investing heavily, with some splashing out millions while others wait patiently for bargains.

Clubs Ranked 20-16 by Net Spend

Some teams enter the new season with strong bank balances but limited spending. Nottingham Forest sit at the bottom after signing and loaning out Gustavo Sa. Their biggest financial boost came from selling Elliot Anderson to Manchester City for around £116m. Aston Villa also benefited from big sales, including Morgan Rogers and Youri Tielemans, reinvesting nearly £100m on Johan Manzambi, Joao Gomes, and a loan signing, Alejandro Garnacho.

Crystal Palace have yet to spend but earned £52m from selling Maxence Lacroix to Chelsea. Newcastle United reshaped their squad with four big purchases despite several key departures. Sunderland remains in the black after selling Eliezer Mayenda without new signings so far.

Clubs Ranked 15-11 by Net Spend

Hull City returns to the Premier League with an even balance of 12 players in and out, keeping finances steady. Fulham trimmed long-serving players but didn't gain much income. Leeds United took risks signing Bosnian star Tarik Muharemović and signed Harry Wilson on a free, offsetting costs by selling Pascal Struijk to Brighton.

Brentford aims to make up for missing Europe last season by signing Burnley's Jaidon Anthony and Austrian talent Jannik Schuster. European qualifiers Bournemouth strengthened their squad with two big signings but lost Marcos Senesi to Tottenham for free.

Clubs Ranked 10-6 by Net Spend

Arsenal, reigning champions, made two major signings: Greek winger Christos Tzolis from Club Brugge and Piero Hincapié, who joined permanently after a loan spell. Sales of Leandro Trossard and Jakub Kiwior helped offset costs.

Brighton has been active with six signings, including a £46m deal for Tottenham defender Luka Vušković, though the sale of Jan Paul van Hecke reduced net spending. Newly promoted Coventry City recruited from Burnley, Brentford, and Frankfurt but haven’t sold any players yet.

Manchester United focused on midfield revamps with arrivals Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans, partially funded by Rasmus Hojlund’s permanent exit. Departures of Jadon Sancho and Casemiro on free transfers eased the wage bill. Everton invested in youth, bringing in Chelsea's Tyrique George among others, despite no sales yet.

Top 5 Spenders (Rank 5-1)

Ipswich Town have joined the big spenders after promotion, nearly hitting £100m on eight new signings, led by Emersonn at £24m. Liverpool lost some key players on free transfers but made two expensive additions, including Jeremy Jacquet for £54m and World Cup winner Víctor Muñoz.

Manchester City targeted youth while recouping fees on defenders Manuel Akanji and Nathan Aké. Their headline signing was Elliot Anderson for £116m. Tottenham Hotspur, under Roberto De Zerbi, have spent over £200m, making savvy free transfers like Andy Robertson and Marcos Senesi, plus big buys Sandro Tonali, Jan Paul van Hecke, and Mateus Fernandes.

Chelsea lead the pack, just shy of £300m spent. Xabi Alonso’s first season sees marquee signings including Marco Palestra and two major deals: Morgan Rogers (£118m from Aston Villa) and Maxence Lacroix (£52m from Crystal Palace).
