PSG Intensifies Pursuit of Ajax's Mika Godts

Paris Saint-Germain have stepped up their pursuit of Ajax sensation Mika Godts – and the ripple has been felt all the way across the Channel.

Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester United and Tottenham have all been contacted about the chance to hijack a potential PSG deal for the 21-year-old, with Ajax valuing the Belgian at around €60m (£51m).

A breakout season that changed everything

In a turbulent year for Ajax, Godts was the bright, relentless flash of light. Despite the club’s domestic struggles, the forward produced a breakthrough campaign of real substance, racking up 32 goal contributions and forcing his way into the notebooks of scouts across the continent.

PSG push ahead after Diomande setback

The French champions are close to wrapping up a deal for Monaco’s Maghnes Akliouche, yet Luis Campos is not easing off. The club’s football advisor wants another attacker and sees Godts as a player who can grow inside Luis Enrique’s long-term project.

Godts is believed to be open to the idea of Paris. He knows what that dressing room looks like – a stacked frontline, minutes fiercely contested, expectations suffocating. He still likes the idea.

That alone will interest Europe’s elite.

Ajax dig in and name their price

Ajax, though, are not behaving like a selling club in a hurry.

The Dutch giants have set their price at around €60m, a figure that has done little to cool PSG’s interest. Negotiations are ongoing, and there is no sign yet that the Parisians are walking away.

Technical director Jordi Cruyff underlined Ajax’s stance in public over the weekend, speaking to De Telegraaf.

“Ultimately, players like Godts will leave, but only at the right time and for the right price,” Cruyff said. “We want to keep him in Amsterdam for at least another year. He is not for sale and otherwise very difficult to buy.”

It was a message aimed at Europe’s richest clubs: if you want him now, you’ll have to pay a premium.
