PSG Target Jonathan David Amid Juventus Tensions

Paris Saint-Germain’s search for extra firepower has taken an unexpected turn, with the French champions now exploring a move for Juventus forward Jonathan David.

The Canadian finds himself firmly on the outside in Turin. Juventus have made it clear he must leave this window if he wants to play, with the coaching staff no longer considering him part of their plans after a series of underwhelming displays.

He has had chances. Luciano Spalletti’s system gave David enough minutes to stake a claim, but the breakthrough never came. Despite that, the striker is digging his heels in. He insists he wants to stay, convinced he can still fight his way back into the team.

Juventus disagree. Inside the club, the feeling is that the battle is already lost. The Bianconeri would rather move him on now and bring in a new attacker they trust to deliver immediately.

Campos connection tempts PSG

Interest from Europe’s elite has been limited. Few top-league clubs have stepped forward, and David is not keen on dropping out of that bracket.

That is where PSG enter the picture. According to Tuttomercatoweb, the Ligue 1 giants are considering him, and the link is obvious: Luis Campos.

The PSG director knows David well from their time together at Lille. It was under Campos’ watch that David blossomed in France, and the Portuguese executive now sees an opportunity to reunite him with Luis Enrique’s squad, using that existing relationship as a lever in negotiations.

For David, it offers a route out that still keeps him at the top level. For Juventus, it could finally unlock a stalemate that has frozen their attacking rebuild.

Wages threaten to kill the move

There is a major obstacle. PSG are not convinced by David’s salary package. The report claims the French club view his current wages as too high, a concern serious enough to derail the deal before it truly takes off.

If PSG walk away, Juventus are back where they started: a player they want to sell, on significant wages, determined to stay and fight for a place that no longer exists in the manager’s plans.

The clock is ticking. Juventus need to free up space and funds if they are to land another forward before the window shuts. PSG, armed with the Campos-David connection and a clear need to refresh their attack, have a tempting option in front of them.

But unless someone bends on the wage issue, this transfer that makes sense for almost everyone on paper might never leave the negotiating table.
