Rafael Leao Addresses Transfer Speculation Amid Galatasaray Interest
Rafael Leao has had enough.
The Milan forward broke his silence on Monday with a sharp message aimed at the swirl of rumours around his future, warning against “speculation and stories that aren’t true” as talk of a move away from San Siro intensifies.
The 27-year-old went public on his own terms, using Instagram to push back against the noise and drag the focus back to the pitch. In a Story featuring a photo of him working in training with the Rossoneri, Leao underlined where his priorities lie.
“My only thought is on the field: I am concentrated on giving my best, every single game and every single training session,” he wrote, before turning directly on those fuelling the transfer chatter. “Just to avoid any form of speculation and stories that aren’t true, I repeat that for some time I’ve assigned all my interests exclusively to my family and my lawyers. Nobody else is authorised to speak for me. My mind is on the next objectives.”
A message aimed at the market
The timing is no accident. Galatasaray’s interest has grown louder in recent weeks, with the Turkish champions exploring what would be a headline-grabbing move for the former Lille winger. Fenerbahce and Besiktas have also been linked, with the Super Lig emerging as a concrete option after a switch to one of Europe’s traditional top five leagues failed to materialise.
Leao himself had hinted at the end of last season that his cycle in Milan might be nearing its end, speaking of a desire for a “fresh challenge”. The market, though, has not yet offered the kind of destination or fee that satisfies all parties. That gap between ambition and reality is exactly where intermediaries thrive – and exactly where Leao is now drawing a red line.
By publicly naming only his family and lawyers as the people authorised to handle his affairs, he is cutting the legs out from under any agents or brokers claiming to represent him in talks with clubs such as Galatasaray. If anyone is shopping his name around, he is making it clear they are doing so without his blessing.
Milan stand firm on the price
On the other side of the table, Milan are in no rush. The club have already rebuffed an opening proposal from Galatasaray believed to be worth around €35 million, a figure that falls well short of their valuation.
The Rossoneri are understood to be holding out for a package of at least €60 million, including bonuses, before they even begin to consider a sale. With Leao’s contract running until June 2028, they hold a strong hand. There is no ticking clock forcing them into a discount.
That long-term deal gives Milan leverage, but it does not remove the tension. Here is a player who has previously admitted he was ready for something new, and a club that would listen to the right offer, locked together for at least another four years on paper.
A month that could define the relationship
For now, Leao insists his head is clear and his focus is on Milan’s “next objectives”. The message is simple: judge him on what he does on the pitch, not on what unnamed sources say off it.
Yet the backdrop is impossible to ignore. A lucrative bid from Turkey could still arrive. Another European heavyweight might test Milan’s resolve late in the window. Intermediaries will keep circling, whether he wants them to or not.
If the price isn’t met and Leao stays, the club and player will have to navigate a season shaped by a delicate balance: a star who once looked beyond San Siro, and a club prepared to cash in at the right number.
The transfer market will close soon enough. The question is whether this story closes with it, or whether the tension around Rafael Leao becomes a permanent subplot to Milan’s season.
