Rangers' Bid for Driouech Rejected as Celtic Nears Hassan

Rangers’ pursuit of Couhaib Driouech has hit another wall. PSV Eindhoven have rejected an improved £6m bid from the Ibrox club for the winger, and the market around the 24-year-old is starting to crowd.

Burnley and Celta Vigo have now stepped into the race, with talks described as being at an early stage. The landscape has shifted quickly: what looked like a straight shootout between Rangers and PSV has turned into a multi-club tug of war.

And there is a twist Rangers will not enjoy. Driouech is understood to have a slight preference for Celta Vigo after the Spanish side formally joined the chase. The La Liga club’s arrival has complicated matters for the Scots, who had hoped their improved offer might force PSV’s hand. Instead, it has simply raised the stakes.

Across Glasgow, Celtic are moving aggressively in the wide areas but are running into their own resistance on one front.

Monaco have identified Algeria international Fares Ghedjemis, 23, as their top target for the right wing. The French club are preparing an improved offer after seeing a proposal worth £6m plus £1.7m in bonuses rejected by Frosinone. The Italian side have already turned down bids of £8.6m from both Celtic and Rangers, underlining just how highly they value the player.

While Ghedjemis drifts out of reach, Celtic are far closer to landing another winger.

Haissem Hassan has been left out of Real Oviedo’s squad for their pre-season game against Le Havre on Saturday, with the 24-year-old Egypt winger the subject of a £9m bid from the Scottish champions and waiting for the go-ahead to complete a medical.

The deal is effectively in place. Hassan is dealing with visa issues, but an agreement has been reached for him to join Celtic on a contract running until 2030. Real Oviedo are set to receive £6m up front, with a further £1.3m due if Celtic reach the Champions League proper.

Real Oviedo head coach Julian Calero has made the club’s stance clear: they will not stand in the way of Hassan’s move. The omission from the pre-season squad and the financial structure on the table point in one direction.

So the picture is stark. Rangers are battling rivals and player preference to land Driouech. Celtic are being priced out of Ghedjemis while closing in on Hassan.
