RB Leipzig Faces Heavy Defeat Against FC Como 1907
RB Leipzig captain David Raum did not sugarcoat a bruising night in Lombardy after his side were dismantled 4-1 by FC Como 1907.
“This feels really awful, we got a real thrashing today. The first half was terrible,” the 28-year-old admitted, sounding as raw as the scoreline suggested.
Leipzig never settled. The plan they arrived with never truly appeared on the pitch, and Raum knew it.
“The second [half was] maybe a touch better. Overall, it wasn't a good performance from us. We have to learn from this,” he said, searching for lessons in a performance he clearly felt had fallen well below their standard.
He spoke of a team that had ideas, but no edge.
“We need to get together as soon as possible, we actually had a clear plan. But we weren't brave or clever enough with the ball again.
“We had the chances to play. But it wasn't sharp enough, there just wasn't enough of anything today.”
The words hung heavy. No excuses, just a blunt assessment of a side outplayed.
Orban: "This game hurts a lot"
Alongside his captain, Willi Orban stepped forward to face the cameras, the defender echoing the same sense of disappointment after a night where Como dictated almost everything.
“We had a reasonable game plan, but it quickly became clear that we couldn't get a grip on Como's game. This game hurts a lot today,” the 33-year-old said.
Como’s authority in possession left a mark on Orban. He pointed directly at what Leipzig had been forced to chase all evening.
“Como showed us what it means to be active with the ball, to make decisions on the ball, and to play good passes in the final third.
“We need to learn that from our opponents today; credit to them. Ultimately, our game plan didn't work out.”
No deflection. No talk of bad luck. Just two senior players standing in front of a heavy defeat and admitting that on this night, in Como, Leipzig were taught a lesson with the ball.
