RC Lens Faces Exodus as Malang Sarr Leaves Club

The rebuild at RC Lens has become a full-blown exodus.

After the departures of captain Adrien Thomasson to Stade Rennais on a free transfer, Allan Saint-Maximin at the end of his short-term deal, and title-winning coach Pierre Sage to Crystal Palace, another pillar has now walked out of the Stade Bollaert door. Malang Sarr is leaving at the end of his contract, the club confirmed on Tuesday.

His deal runs until 30 June. After that, he is officially a free agent.

Sarr arrived in the 2024/25 season, looking for a reset. His time at Chelsea had fizzled out, ending in a mutual termination. Lens offered something more precious than a big name on the CV: a clear role, a defined identity, and a stadium that lives and breathes every defensive tackle.

Lens must once again reshape its spine. Sarr, at 27, enters a crucial phase of his career, leaving with his stock restored and the freedom to choose his next move.
