Real Madrid Secures Arda Güler with New Decade-Long Contract
Real Madrid are moving to lock Arda Güler into their future for the long haul.
Spanish daily AS first reported on Thursday that talks over a new contract had taken a decisive step forward. A few hours later, transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano went further: according to his information, Madrid have now fully agreed all details with the 21-year-old’s camp.
The deal is huge – in length and in meaning.
A contract for a decade
Güler’s new agreement is expected to run at least until 2031, with Romano claiming it will actually stretch to 2032. That would place the Turkish international in an exclusive bracket at the Bernabéu. Only summer signing Yan Diomande, who arrived for €125 million, is tied down longer, with a contract through 2033.
For Güler, this is more than a signature. It is a statement.
When he joined from Fenerbahce in the summer of 2023, his original deal ran until 2029. Just over a year later, Madrid are tearing that up and committing to a player they now clearly see as a pillar of the next era.
From €28m gamble to €90m star
Real Madrid paid €28 million to prise Güler away from Fenerbahce. It looked like a sizeable outlay for a teenager. It already feels like a bargain.
His market value has rocketed to around €90 million, placing the left-footer comfortably at the top of the list of the most valuable Turkish footballers. That rise is now set to be reflected in his pay packet as well. Reports put his current salary at about €5 million per year, a figure expected to jump significantly under the new terms.
Madrid are paying him like a star because he has started to play like one.
Mourinho’s trust, Güler’s response
Last season, Güler forced his way into the picture step by step. By the end of the campaign he had stacked up 20 goal involvements across 51 competitive matches, turning cameos into starts and promise into production.
This year, under new head coach Jose Mourinho, he has gone up another level in status. Mourinho has started him in three of the first four league games, and Güler has repaid that faith with ruthless consistency: a goal and an assist in each of those starts.
Only a suspension, carried over from a red card in last season’s Champions League, kept him out of the 2-1 win against Inter Milan. It took a ban to stop him getting on the pitch.
Madrid have seen enough. The club that built its modern history on Galácticos is now building a new spine around a 21-year-old Turk – and tying him to the Bernabéu for the next decade.
