Real Madrid are weighing up a move for Michael Olise that would shake the transfer market to its core and drag Neymar’s long-standing record into direct danger.
The European champions are said to be exploring a package of around €223m for the Bayern Munich forward, a figure that would eclipse the €222m Paris Saint-Germain paid Barcelona for Neymar in 2017. It is the kind of number that only Madrid, and only a Florentino Pérez in full galáctico mode, even contemplate.
Olise has given them every reason to.
Since landing in Germany from Crystal Palace, the Frenchman has exploded into one of the most productive forwards on the continent, a wide attacker who drifts, creates, and finishes with equal menace. His capacity to operate across the front line fits perfectly with Pérez’s obsession: stockpiling the game’s most dazzling attacking talent and letting the rest of Europe watch on.
For some, it is not even a debate.
Zamorano: “I’d buy Olise tomorrow”
Speaking to Marca, former Madrid striker Iván Zamorano left no room for doubt when Olise’s name came up. The Chilean, a cult hero at the Bernabéu between 1992 and 1996, was asked how he would strengthen Pérez’s latest super-team.
His answer was instant.
“I’d buy Olise tomorrow! And I’d play with Olise, [Kylian] Mbappé, Vinicius, and I’d bring in Enzo Fernández and put him in midfield. We already have a right-back, a center-back... so with that we’d have a great team,” Zamorano said.
It is a fantasy front line even by Madrid’s standards: Mbappé, Vinícius Júnior and Olise rotating across the attack, with Enzo Fernández knitting the game together behind them. The kind of attacking quartet that sells shirts, fills stadiums and terrifies defenders.
Yet Zamorano did not stop at the dream. He also delivered a warning.
Galácticos, yes – but not at any cost
Madrid’s 2025-26 campaign exposed familiar fault lines. Too much brilliance up front, not enough structure behind it. Zamorano, who lived through the club’s turbulent early galáctico years, sees the same danger now.
“We have two world-class strikers, and there’s no doubt the team must be built around that,” he said. “Last year there was an imbalance between the attackers, the midfield, and the defense. While that’s true, we have to take advantage of having two world-class strikers and the possibility of adding another.”
The message is clear: Madrid cannot simply stack stars and hope for the best.
“We also need to find a balance by bringing in central defenders, all-around midfielders, and not relying so heavily on two monsters like Vinicius and Mbappé. We also need to try to create a very compact team from the forwards back,” he explained.
So while Olise sits top of the wishlist, Zamorano’s blueprint stretches far beyond one blockbuster signing. It is a call for structure to match the spectacle.
Olise’s focus fixed on France, not Madrid
While Madrid and Bayern are left to wrestle with the numbers and the noise, Olise’s immediate reality lies thousands of kilometres away, in the pressure cooker of the 2026 World Cup.
The winger is locked into France’s campaign, with Didier Deschamps’ side grinding their way into the quarter-finals. Off the pitch, though, the French Football Federation (FFF) is fighting a different battle on his behalf.
The FFF has appealed to FIFA to overturn a yellow card shown to Olise during France’s tetchy 1-0 win over Paraguay in the round of 16. He was booked after a flashpoint with Matías Galarza in a bad-tempered tie decided by a Kylian Mbappé penalty.
France know what is at stake. In a tournament where suspensions can tilt a campaign overnight, protecting one of their most dangerous playmakers has become a priority inside the camp. Every card matters now, every decision from the disciplinary bodies carries weight.
Next up is Morocco in the quarter-finals on July 9, a clash that promises intensity, noise, and very little margin for error.
If Olise keeps driving France forward on the world stage while Madrid circle with a record-breaking bid, the question will not be whether he is worth the chase. It will be who, if anyone, can afford to stand in the way.
