Real Madrid Opens Talks for Diomande as €100m Bids Fall Short

The summer market has its first real tug of war. According to Bild, Real Madrid have opened talks with RB Leipzig and the entourage of Ivorian winger Yan Diomande, stepping into a race already littered with failed bids and frustrated suitors.

Liverpool went hard. Their offer, worth more than €100 million, was pushed across the table and pushed straight back. Leipzig held their line. Paris Saint-Germain circled during the World Cup and opened negotiations of their own. Arsenal have also made contact. None of them, so far, have shifted the Bundesliga club from their stance.

Now Madrid are in the room. When they arrive at an auction like this, the dynamic changes.

Rodri at the centre of a storm

While Madrid probe Leipzig over Diomande, they are also testing the resolve of Manchester City for a very different profile of player. The Athletic reports that the Spanish giants have made contact over a move for Spain’s captain Rodri in the current window.

City’s new manager Enzo Maresca addressed the situation on Friday. He confirmed Rodri has undergone back surgery and will be out for an unspecified period. No timeline, no guarantees. Just the admission that his midfield anchor is unavailable for now.

That uncertainty has not cooled interest. PSG have spoken to City as well, exploring what a deal might look like. Strengthening midfield was not on their original summer blueprint, but Rodri’s contract situation has altered the equation. With only a year left on his deal, he has turned from untouchable pillar into market opportunity.

Real Madrid are ahead of the pack. Fabrice Hawkins revealed on RMC Sport that they already have an agreement in place with the player, leaving PSG and Barcelona looking on. Barça, monitoring the situation closely, would love to bring him back to Spain, but at this stage they are chasing rather than leading.

If City choose to cash in, the battle lines are already drawn.

Lukaku refuses to play understudy

In Naples, Romelu Lukaku has drawn his own line. His agent, Federico Pastorello, told Sky that the Belgian will not accept a bit-part role at Napoli next season.

Pastorello still places Lukaku among the elite in his position and made it clear that his client will not sit quietly on the bench behind Rasmus Hojlund. For a club trying to balance reputation, wages and a new attacking hierarchy, that stance forces a decision: reshape the forward line around Lukaku, or move him on.

There is no middle ground in that message.

Arsenal’s bold play for Julian Alvarez

Arsenal, never shy of a complex deal under this regime, are preparing another. Cadena SER reports that the London club are readying an offer of cash plus striker Viktor Gyokeres to prise Julian Alvarez away from Atletico Madrid.

Barcelona remain the most persistent admirers of the Argentine forward. Their official bid has already been rejected, with Atletico holding firm until their financial demands are met. Arsenal’s proposal adds a different twist: immediate money, plus a ready-made No 9 in Gyokeres.

Atletico know they are holding a premium asset. With multiple big clubs circling and no need to rush, they can simply wait for someone to meet their price.

Leao pushes for clarity, but not at any cost

Rafael Leao has lit the fuse under his own future. Speaking on Brazilian podcast Podpah, the AC Milan forward said he has made his position clear to the club. He will report for collective training as normal, but the message is simple: he is open to a new challenge.

For now, though, there is little on paper. La Gazzetta reports that Leao has no official offers in front of him, with one notable exception: Fenerbahce. That proposal does not match his vision for the next step in his career, and he has not hidden that.

The Turkish club, for their part, have moved to shut the door on the rumour mill. In a formal statement, Fenerbahce denied any talks for Stuttgart’s Ermedin Demirovic and dismissed as fiction the stories of a €100 million package, salary included, to sign Leao from Milan. No negotiations, no blockbuster bid, they insist.

Leao wants a move that fits his ambitions. Fenerbahce are adamant they are not the ones offering it.

Nunez nears Besiktas switch

In Turkey, another forward is edging toward a new start. Journalist Sacha Tavolieri reports that Darwin Nunez is closing in on a move from Al-Hilal to Besiktas during this window.

Personal terms with Besiktas are said to be close. The fee Al-Hilal would receive, and the structure of the deal, remain unclear. For Besiktas, the chance to land a Uruguay striker of Nunez’s profile is significant; for Al-Hilal, it is a question of value and timing.

Once the numbers surface, that move could accelerate quickly.

Openda set for Lyon loan

Olympique Lyon have moved quietly but decisively to strengthen their attack. Fabrizio Romano, citing Fabrice Hawkins, reports that Lyon have reached a verbal agreement with Juventus to sign Louis Openda on loan.

The terms are straightforward: a loan fee of around €3 million, Lyon covering the striker’s full salary, and no option to buy. A short-term fix, not a long-term commitment.

For Lyon, it is a calculated gamble. They get a forward ready to contribute immediately, while Juventus keep control of the player’s future.

The market is still young, but the pattern is already clear. Clubs with power are testing each other’s resolve over stars like Diomande and Rodri, while restless forwards from Leao to Lukaku weigh up their next move. The money is on the table. The question now is who blinks first.
