Safia Middleton-Patel Joins Watford on Loan for 2026-27 Season
Safia Middleton-Patel will spend the 2026-27 season with Watford after securing a year-long loan move from Manchester United.
The Wales international returns to familiar surroundings. She joined the Hornets for the second half of the 2023-24 campaign and did enough in that short spell for Watford to push for a full-season deal as they gear up for life in Women's Super League 2.
At 21, Middleton-Patel is at a pivotal stage. She made her senior debut for United against Newcastle United in December 2024, a landmark moment for a goalkeeper who has come through the ranks at a club demanding excellence.
Game time at Old Trafford has been hard to come by, but when called upon last season she delivered. She featured three times under Marc Skinner, including in United's Champions League victory over Paris Saint-Germain at Old Trafford, a high-pressure stage that underlined her potential.
United made it clear they will be watching closely. In a statement, the club said: "We will be tracking Saf's progress closely and wish her the very best of luck."
Now the challenge shifts to Watford. A full season, a starting jersey to fight for, and a chance to show she can be a long-term option at the top level.
