Serge Gnabry Supports Harry Kane for Ballon d'Or Ahead of Bayern vs Arsenal Clash

Serge Gnabry, winger for Bayern Munich, has publicly supported his teammate Harry Kane to win the Ballon d'Or this year. Speaking before their Champions League match against Arsenal, Gnabry praised Kane's remarkable goal-scoring form and leadership.

Impressive Scoring Record Boosts Kane's Case

The England captain is considered a strong candidate for the award, competing with Barcelona's La Liga and World Cup winner, Lamine Yamal. Kane’s performance last season was outstanding: he netted 61 goals for Bayern, leading the team to the Bundesliga title while also captaining England to the World Cup semi-finals against Argentina.

Strong Start to 2026-27 Season

Kane has carried his excellent form into the current campaign, scoring nine goals and assisting six times in ten matches across all competitions. This includes three goals in two Champions League games, helping Bayern stay atop the Bundesliga table with 14 points, tied with Borussia Dortmund.

Gnabry on Kane's Impact

"He’s shown it time and again, how valuable he is. How much he has improved since coming here - an incredible player. Very deserving. I said it earlier at a press conference. I don’t know who decides the markers on who deserves to win that trophy, but he has had an incredible year. He’s still in great form, still scoring a lot of goals, so valuable to our team. I would wish it for him, he deserves that trophy."

When asked about playing alongside Kane, Gnabry added:

"He scores a lot of goals. The right mindset, he’s always in the game, focused. In that sense, a calm through the storm, and sets the bar high."

Facing Former Club Arsenal

Wednesday’s match will also see Gnabry face his former club, Arsenal, where he spent part of his early career before moving to Werder Bremen and then Bayern Munich. Now, he will play against Mikel Arteta, the current Arsenal manager and his former teammate.

"It wasn’t an easy project. For him to last that long, to have that success, and make them champions again, is a very big achievement. Probably a bigger achievement than some achievements by bigger coaches. I’ve played for the club, so in some ways I’m happy for them, but of course, tomorrow, I’m playing for Bayern Munich. They’re my current club, and we need to win tomorrow."

Looking Ahead to the Ballon d'Or Ceremony

After the Champions League match, attention will turn to the Ballon d'Or ceremony scheduled for Monday, October 26. Kane is not only a favourite to claim the award but also expected to announce his future at Bayern, with talks underway for a contract extension beyond his current deal ending in summer 2027.
