Xavi Hernandez taking over as Netherlands head coach has sent a jolt through European football, sparking opinions from every corner of the game. One man you might expect to have plenty to say about it is Sergiño Dest, who shared a dressing room with Xavi at Barcelona.
He wasn’t in the mood for that role.
The PSV full-back, speaking to ESPN, was asked for his view on Xavi’s arrival as Oranje boss. Instead of offering a glowing tribute or a tactical breakdown, Dest quickly redirected the spotlight.
“I think you should ask Frenkie de Jong,” he said with a grin. “Ask Frenkie, he knows more.”

It makes sense. If anyone inside that camp can explain what Xavi might bring to the Dutch national team, it is the midfielder from Arkel, not the reborn full-back from Almere.
