Sofie Lundgaard Joins Eintracht Frankfurt After Liverpool Exit

Sofie Lundgaard’s stop-start Liverpool chapter is over. Eintracht Frankfurt have moved in, sealing a permanent deal for the midfielder for an undisclosed fee.

The 24-year-old arrived on Merseyside in January 2023 with high expectations and a growing reputation, but her time in red never truly caught fire. She made 42 appearances for the club, her progress repeatedly checked by serious injury.

Two anterior cruciate ligament ruptures across three-and-a-half years at Liverpool left Lundgaard fighting her body as much as any opponent. Those setbacks restricted her minutes and blunted the impact she might have had in the Women’s Super League.

Now comes a reset. Lundgaard heads to the Frauen-Bundesliga with Frankfurt, returning to a league renowned for its intensity and technical edge. Before Liverpool, she had built her name at Fortuna Hjorring in Denmark, and Frankfurt will hope to tap into the player she was before injuries intruded.

Birmingham knocked back in Fatou Kanteh chase

While Lundgaard moves on, another potential transfer has stalled.

Birmingham City have seen a bid rejected by Sevilla for Gambia winger Fatou Kanteh. The Women’s Super League side are understood to have tabled an offer in the region of 100,000 Euros (£85,000), but Sevilla turned it down.

The Spanish club value the 29-year-old significantly higher and do not want to sell, a stance that appears to have closed the door. Birmingham are not expected to return with an improved bid.

Kanteh has spent her entire senior career in Liga F, featuring for Villarreal, Huelva and Logrono before settling at Sevilla. She has scored 12 goals in 63 matches for the Andalusian side, her pace and direct running making her a key attacking outlet.

For now, Sevilla hold their ground, Birmingham look elsewhere, and Kanteh’s future stays tied to Spain – at least until someone decides she is worth Sevilla’s price.
