Syracuse Falls to Boston College 2-0 in Tight Match

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. — Syracuse created the chances. Boston College scored the goals.

Despite a barrage of 19 shots on Friday night at Newton Campus Lacrosse and Soccer Field, the Orange walked away empty-handed in a 2-0 defeat, still searching for their first conference points of the season.

Boston College, outshot 19-8, absorbed pressure and waited for its moment. It arrived in the 53rd minute. Michael Asare broke the deadlock, punishing Syracuse after the break and tilting a tight match in the Eagles’ favor.

The strike changed everything. Syracuse kept pushing, but the hosts grew more comfortable, picking their spots on the counter. The pressure finally told again when Russell Brown doubled the lead, finishing off a move created by Moritz Gundelach, whose assist sliced open the Orange back line.

Syracuse goalkeeper Kyle Jansen was called on sparingly, credited with one save, as the story of the night unfolded at the other end: plenty of looks, no finish. The loss drops Syracuse to 4-3-0 overall and 0-2-0 in league play, while Boston College improves to 4-1-1 and 1-1-0 in the conference.

Now the Orange have little time to dwell. They head to Colgate on Tuesday, September 15 at 7 p.m., needing not just a response, but goals to go with it.
