Tottenham Blocks Richarlison's Move to UAE
Tottenham Hotspur have blocked a late attempt from Shabab Al Ahli to take Richarlison to the UAE, leaving the Brazilian forward stuck in limbo in North London until at least January.
The UAE Pro League side pushed to reunite Richarlison with former Brazil Olympic coach Andre Jardine and tabled a proposal that would have allowed the striker to move again in the winter window. Tottenham looked at it – and walked away.
Club sources indicate the decision had nothing to do with Richarlison’s openness to the switch. The 29-year-old was prepared to consider the move, attracted by the chance to work with Jardine again and to get back on the pitch after a turbulent summer. The problem lay in the structure of the offer, which Spurs deemed unsuitable.
Spurs turn down Middle East escape route
The Middle East window remains open for just over a week, and Shabab Al Ahli had emerged as the latest escape route after a string of failed moves.
Everton explored bringing Richarlison back. Trabzonspor showed interest. Vasco da Gama also tried to piece together a deal. None of those options materialised into an agreement, and Shabab Al Ahli stepped in late, sensing an opportunity.
Tottenham listened. Then shut the door. With the proposed terms rejected, the London club have decided they would rather keep the player than accept a deal they do not believe works for them.
Richarlison now faces long spell in the cold
The decision leaves Richarlison in a difficult position. He has been left out of Tottenham’s Premier League squad, and unless something changes internally, he is staring at the prospect of three-and-a-half months without competitive first-team football.
For a player who built his reputation on relentless energy and edge, the prospect of simply training through autumn and early winter, waiting for January, is stark.
His contract at Tottenham runs until the end of the season, with the club holding an option to extend for a further year. On paper, that gives Spurs control. In reality, it extends the uncertainty. They must now decide how to manage a high-profile, unused forward whose future clearly lies elsewhere but whose immediate path out has just been blocked again.
What happens next?
As things stand, Richarlison will remain a Tottenham player until the January window opens and fresh offers arrive. Shabab Al Ahli’s attempt has gone the same way as Everton’s, Trabzonspor’s and Vasco da Gama’s – interest, talks, no deal.
The Brazilian stays in North London, outside the Premier League squad, waiting for the next move in a career that suddenly feels stuck on pause.
