Tottenham's Attacking Plans: Savinho and Gakpo Ahead of Neto

Tottenham’s late-window attacking plan is beginning to show its hand – and a Chelsea winger sits firmly behind two heavyweight names on their wishlist.

Roberto De Zerbi made it clear early in the summer that once midfield and defence were sorted, the front line needed sharpening. Spurs have spent much of the window scouring the market for wide forwards, and one deal now dominates their thinking.

Savinho the priority – and a huge outlay

Tottenham are poised to commit a huge sum on Manchester City winger Savinho, with the total package expected to hit £85million.

He has been at the top of their shortlist for that wide attacking berth for some time, and Spurs are now pushing hard to finalise an agreement with City.

Speaking to Football Insider, journalist Pete O’Rourke underlined just how central Savinho is to the club’s plans.

“Savinho is their number one target for that wide attacking position, he is the priority and they’re working hard to reach an agreement with Man City over that one,” he said.

The Brazilian is not the only name in the frame, though. Behind him, another high-profile option has moved into view.

Gakpo next in line, Neto further back

Cody Gakpo is described as “high on that list” of attacking options. The Netherlands international sits alongside Savinho as a leading candidate, with both currently ahead of Pedro Neto in the Spurs hierarchy.

“Pedro Neto is on Tottenham’s list, maybe not at the top of it right now,” O’Rourke explained. “Cody Gakpo is high on that list as well, and both of those players are probably ahead of Pedro Neto in the pecking order for Spurs.

“Savinho is the one they’re really pushing to get done, and they’re keen on Gakpo too, so that’s where they stand at the moment.”

So Neto is admired, but not driving the strategy. And Chelsea’s stance makes any move even more complicated.

Chelsea’s £100m stance on Neto

Chelsea are in no mood to let Pedro Neto leave on the cheap. TEAMtalk understands it will take around £100million to tempt the club into a sale.

Neto’s camp are open to the idea of a move, but the Blues want full value if they are to part with the Portuguese winger. Xabi Alonso is under no pressure to cash in and would be happy to keep Neto in his squad.

Chelsea are well aware of the interest building around the player. Tottenham are not alone: Manchester City are monitoring the situation, while Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal have already tried to test Chelsea’s resolve.

Al-Hilal are understood to have made a £60million approach, which was swiftly rejected in line with Chelsea’s valuation.

Spurs’ numbers game out wide

For Tottenham, the numbers tell their own story. An £85million commitment on Savinho would represent a major investment in a player who operates in the same wide areas where Neto does his best work.

That is why, as things stand, a second nine-figure outlay on another winger looks unlikely. Neto remains on the list, admired and tracked, but with Savinho and Gakpo ahead of him, his route to north London feels blocked by both price and position.

Unless valuations shift, Spurs’ late-window fireworks are far more likely to come from Manchester than from Stamford Bridge.
