Tottenham's Victor Osimhen Gamble: Striker Exit Needed

Tottenham Hotspur have been handed a route to Victor Osimhen this summer, but it comes with a clear condition: someone up front has to go first.

According to TEAMtalk, Spurs have been offered the chance to sign the Nigerian international as they continue their search for a ruthless centre-forward before the new season. The opportunity is on the table. The decision is not.

For now, Tottenham have not committed to a formal move for the 27-year-old, and the hesitation is understandable. This is not a simple deal. It is a financial balancing act.

Osimhen’s proposed salary – a reported €288,000 per week after tax – would make him the highest earner at the club. That alone would force a reset of Tottenham’s wage structure. Add a significant transfer fee on top, and the picture becomes even more complicated.

So the equation is blunt: no exit, no Osimhen. Spurs would need to move on either Dominic Solanke or Richarlison to clear both squad space and room on the wage bill. Only then could they realistically move for the Super Eagles star.

On the pitch, the appeal is obvious. Since leaving Napoli for Galatasaray in 2024, initially on loan and then on a permanent deal, Osimhen has done exactly what top clubs expect him to do: score. He struck 15 goals and added five assists in the Turkish Super Lig last season, despite starting only 19 league games. That level of efficiency keeps him firmly on the radar of Europe’s elite.

The numbers tell one story; his ambition tells another. Reports indicate Osimhen still wants to test himself in the Premier League during the peak of his career. That desire could tilt the situation in Tottenham’s favour if they decide to move.

But the clock is ticking on more than just his prime years. Spurs must trim a bloated squad, manage a delicate wage hierarchy and decide whether Osimhen is the striker to anchor their next phase.

If they are serious, someone in that forward line will have to pay the price.
