Vinicius Jr Explains Decision to Stay at Real Madrid Over Arsenal
Vinicius Jr personally called Arsenal to explain why he turned his back on a move to north London and chose to sign a new deal with Real Madrid.
The Brazilian forward, 26, had been high on Arsenal’s list of summer targets, encouraged by signals from his camp that he was open to a change. Inside the club, there was no split opinion: the hierarchy were ready to commit serious money if Vinicius refused Madrid’s extension and hit the market.

According to The Athletic, once the saga reached its conclusion, Vinicius did something many players in his position do not: he reached out directly to Arsenal. He wanted to confirm his decision himself and to explain it.
Those inside Arsenal had reason to believe they were in the race. The forward had been genuinely drawn to the club’s ambition and the sporting project presented by manager Mikel Arteta, sporting director Andrea Berta and the ownership. The plan was detailed, the role clearly defined, the stage enormous. London, the Premier League, a title-winning side ready-made for his arrival – it was all on the table.
His willingness to engage at that level, The Athletic report, showed just how open he truly was to walking away from Madrid and starting again in England. This was not a token flirtation to leverage a better contract. Arsenal felt they were in with a real chance.

Vinicius is said to have thanked the Premier League champions for their pursuit and the scale of their proposal, before making it clear that his final call came down to two things: his affection for Real Madrid and the strength of the club’s financial commitment to him.
