Wayne Rooney Joins Mark Goldbridge for New Manchester United Show
Wayne Rooney is stepping into Manchester United’s fan-media cauldron – and he’s doing it next to one of its loudest voices.
The club’s all-time leading scorer will co-host a new United-only show this season with influencer Mark Goldbridge, in a move that drags one of YouTube’s most volatile fan brands directly into the mainstream.
The programme, titled Stick to United with Wayne Rooney, will sit under Gary Neville’s rapidly growing Overlap banner, with Rooney moving from guest pundit to frontman alongside Goldbridge.
Neville, Goldbridge and Disney+: a new media triangle
Neville completed the key piece of this puzzle earlier in the year when he bought Goldbridge’s YouTube channels – The United Stand and That’s Football – for an undisclosed seven-figure fee, folding them into his Overlap network.
Now comes the big distribution play.
A deal with Disney+ will see the platform carry 50 episodes of Stick to United and 40 episodes of the flagship Stick to Football across the season, significantly widening the reach of content that started life as fan chat and ex-pro debate on YouTube.
Neville is adamant the tie-up will not dilute what made The Overlap successful in the first place, insisting the partnership “expands our reach without compromising our identity”.
Since launching The Overlap in 2021, the former England defender has turned it from a football talk show into a broader sports media brand, branching into cricket and rugby while keeping United at the heart of its storylines.
From viral rants to the mainstream
Goldbridge – real name Brent di Cesare – arrives with a built-in audience and a reputation that divides opinion.
Across The United Stand and That’s Football, he has amassed more than 3.8 million followers, with clips of his furious monologues, wild celebrations and spiky tactical takes regularly going viral. Those outlandish reactions and controversial opinions are precisely what turned him into a cult figure among online fans and a lightning rod for critics.
His integration into Neville’s operation is striking given Neville’s past stance on fan channels. Back in 2017, he publicly tore into ArsenalFanTV, branding it “embarrassing” after supporters on the channel laid into Arsene Wenger following a 3-1 defeat by Chelsea.
The criticism sparked a heated Twitter exchange, before Neville later appeared on ArsenalFanTV itself to explain his position. Seven years on, he now owns one of the biggest club-specific fan platforms in the game and is pairing it with one of United’s greatest players.
Rooney’s media portfolio grows
Rooney is no stranger to the studio now. A regular pundit on Stick to Football, he has gradually sharpened his broadcasting voice after managerial spells at Derby County, D.C. United and Birmingham City.
This season, he will juggle even more screen time.
The Wayne Rooney Show is returning to BBC platforms, while he continues in his role on Match of the Day. Add a United-focused series with Goldbridge to that schedule, and Rooney is fast becoming one of the most visible ex-players in British football media.
A club legend sitting beside a fan-channel firebrand, backed by Neville and streamed on Disney+. For Manchester United’s global fanbase, the debate around their club is about to get even louder.
