The 2026/27 UEFA Champions League final is set for Saturday, 5 June 2027, at Atlético de Madrid's Estadio Metropolitano in Madrid. This stadium will celebrate its tenth anniversary that year and will host its second Champions League final.
Location and Previous Finals
The Estadio Metropolitano is situated in Madrid's Rosas neighborhood and has been Atlético de Madrid's home ground since 2017. It previously hosted the 2019 final where Liverpool beat Tottenham 2-0. Madrid will be hosting its sixth European Cup or Champions League final, with only London having hosted more. The famous Estadio Santiago Bernabéu held finals in 1957, 1969, 1980, and 2010.
Final Match Details
The final marks the end of the 72nd season of Europe's top club competition and the 35th since it was renamed the UEFA Champions League. If the match is tied after regular time, two 15-minute periods of extra time will be played. Should the deadlock continue, the winner will be decided by a penalty shoot-out.
About Estadio Metropolitano
The stadium replaced the Vicente Calderón as Atlético de Madrid's home and honors the original Estadio Metropolitano, which served as Atleti's stadium until 1966. Opened on 16 September 2017 during a La Liga match against Málaga, Antoine Griezmann scored the first goal there.
Located on Avenida Luis Aragonés, named after Spain’s UEFA EURO 2008-winning coach, the stadium holds around 70,000 spectators. Environmentally conscious design features include LED lighting, solar panels, and recycled rainwater irrigation. It was the world's first stadium to use 100% LED lighting.
Accessible via subway line seven (station: Estadio Metropolitano), the venue has also hosted rugby union matches, the World Rugby Sevens Series Grand Final, boxing events, and concerts. It is shortlisted to hold matches for the 2030 FIFA World Cup finals.
What the Champions League Winners Receive
The iconic UEFA Champions League trophy is 73.5cm tall and weighs 7.5kg. Its designer, Jürg Stadelmann, said, "Everybody in football is keen to get their hands on it." Winning teams earn the right to face the 2026/27 UEFA Europa League champions in the 2027 UEFA Super Cup. They also secure automatic qualification for the group stage of the 2027/28 Champions League if they haven't qualified through their domestic league.
