Amar Dedic Avoids Punishment After Police Incident

Newcastle’s Amar Dedic is set to avoid internal punishment after a surreal midweek incident that saw the defender trigger a major police response while out in the Northumberland countryside with a bow and arrow.

The 24-year-old Bosnia right-back is still expected to start Newcastle’s trip to Fulham on Saturday, despite finding himself at the centre of an armed pursuit that ended outside his home on the affluent Darras Hall estate near Ponteland.

Incident Overview

What began as a quiet walk by a reservoir turned into a full-scale operation. On Wednesday afternoon, a member of the public spotted Dedic and a friend walking along a track in rural Northumberland, each carrying archery equipment. The sight of two men with bows and arrows on the Military Road, near Harlow Hill, was enough to prompt a call to Northumbria Police.

The response was anything but low-key. Six patrol cars were eventually involved as officers tracked Dedic’s vehicle back towards Darras Hall, an area popular with footballers and other high-profile figures. When the car was stopped, police seized the bows and arrows from the boot.

Police Statement

Northumbria Police later confirmed they were satisfied there had been no threat to the public.

In a statement, the force said the equipment was “for recreational use and there was no threat to the public”, while stressing that inquiries remain “on-going”. There is no suggestion Dedic or his companion were hunting, though pursuing animals with bows, arrows or crossbows is illegal in the UK.

“Shortly after 1.55pm on Wednesday we received a report of two men carrying a bow and arrow while walking along a track by the reservoir on the Military Road in the Harlow Hill area,” Northumbria Police said. “Officers attended and subsequently stopped a vehicle in the Darras Hall area and seized bows and arrows.”

Club's Response

The club is understood to view the matter as a misunderstanding rather than a disciplinary issue, with no formal sanction expected. For Newcastle, the focus now is on Fulham away and a right-back who, after an unexpected brush with an armed response unit, is still likely to line up as planned at the weekend.
