Archie Gray Credits Roberto De Zerbi’s Marbella Camp for Tottenham's Unity Ahead of Leeds Clash
Archie Gray has praised Tottenham Hotspur manager Roberto De Zerbi for organizing a training camp in Marbella, Spain, which has helped bring the squad closer together. This team unity appears to have fueled Tottenham’s recent surge, as they prepare for Saturday’s match against Leeds United.
Winning Streak Followed Spanish Retreat
After a shaky start to the season, Tottenham endured six matches without a win, culminating in a 1-1 draw at Old Trafford against Manchester United. The mood was tense, with some fans fearing another relegation scrap like last year. But since returning from their warm-weather bonding trip, Spurs have won three straight games: a 3-1 victory over Coventry City, and two wins by two-goal margins against Chelsea and Crystal Palace.
Team Chemistry Fuels Performance
Gray spoke to SpursPlay about the difference the Marbella trip made: “The trip obviously helped us get to know each other better. We’re almost like brothers on the pitch now – that’s something the gaffer keeps talking about. You can see it out there, even in the celebrations when all the subs run to join the players. Those little things mean a lot to us. That’s why we’ve been improving.”
He added, “Getting three wins in a row is really important. It hadn’t happened for a long time, so doing that boosted us.”
Gray’s Early Exit Against Palace
The 20-year-old has mostly played right-back this season due to Pedro Porro’s hamstring injury. Gray scored Tottenham’s opening goal against Palace but was booked early in the first half. After an opposing player was sent off, Gray was substituted at halftime to avoid risking a second yellow card. Porro came on as a substitute.
Reflecting on his early withdrawal, Gray said, “I was gutted to come off, but I was on a yellow card, so we didn’t want to take any risks. It’s a crucial time for us. We’ve improved a lot recently because we’re playing more as a team and working for each other.”
Upcoming Match at Elland Road
Gray now looks forward to facing his former club, Leeds United, as Tottenham aim to extend their winning streak to four before the international break. With Porro regaining fitness from the bench, De Zerbi will have a choice to make at right-back for the trip to West Yorkshire. Continuing their positive run would cement Spurs’ climb into the Premier League’s top half.
