Arsenal, Liverpool, and Manchester United's Transfer Drama Ahead of Next Season
World Cup drama on the pitch, transfer drama off it. While the action unfolds on the biggest stage, the Premier League’s heavyweights are quietly trying to shape next season.
Arsenal move first for Barcola
Arsenal, fresh from their title triumph, are wasting no time. Mikel Arteta’s side are preparing a bid for Paris Saint-Germain winger Bradley Barcola, according to The Independent, as they look to sharpen an attack that already fired them to the top of English football.
They are not alone in the chase. Liverpool are also in the frame for the French international, who underlined his growing reputation by scoring in Les Bleus’ 3-1 World Cup group-stage win over Senegal. Arsenal, though, are understood to have made the first concrete move, keen to seize the initiative before a full bidding war breaks out.
Arteta wants more depth, more unpredictability, more goals from wide areas. Barcola fits that brief. Now the question is whether Arsenal can close the deal before Liverpool push their way to the front of the queue.
Liverpool hijack Newcastle – again
While Arsenal circle in Paris, Liverpool are busy pulling off a familiar trick in the market. New boss Andoni Iraola is closing in on his first signing at Anfield, and it comes at Newcastle United’s expense.
Late on Wednesday night, reports emerged that Liverpool had swooped in on Newcastle’s move for Victor Munoz from Osasuna. The Magpies thought they were edging towards a deal. Liverpool stepped in and turned the situation on its head.
Now the 22-year-old Spanish winger is said to be on the verge of completing a move to Merseyside. It would be a striking opening statement from Iraola: young, direct, attacking talent, secured in classic Liverpool fashion by snatching a target from a direct rival’s grasp.
Work is also understood to be ongoing to land highly rated winger Yan Diomande from RB Leipzig. If that pursuit bears fruit, Liverpool’s wide options could look very different by the time the Premier League kicks off again.
Rashford’s clause expires, future in focus
At Manchester United, the spotlight falls on Marcus Rashford once more. The forward saw his buy-out clause for a move to Barcelona expire this week, drawing a line under that particular route after his loan spell at the World Cup.
If there were any doubts about his mindset, he answered them on the pitch. Rashford came off the bench for England and rounded off a 4-2 win over Croatia in Dallas, showing the sharpness and composure that once made him the poster boy of Old Trafford’s new era.
This summer feels pivotal. Uncertainty still hangs over his long-term future, but reports suggest he could be reintegrated into the Manchester United squad under new head coach Michael Carrick. A fully firing Rashford, plugged back into a coherent system, could transform United’s attacking threat next season.
Behind the scenes, United’s recruitment team are also pushing on with a move for Mateus Fernandes from West Ham, as Carrick looks to reshape the squad in his own image.
The World Cup will dominate the headlines for now. But in boardrooms from London to Liverpool to Manchester, the decisions being made this week could define the next Premier League title race.
