Arsenal Initiate Talks with Galatasaray for Victor Osimhen Amid Player Swap Rumors
Arsenal have started discussions with Galatasaray about a surprising transfer involving striker Victor Osimhen. The Nigerian forward, who joined the Turkish side last summer for €75 million (£64.8m) from Napoli, could be making his Premier League debut if a deal goes through.
The conversations come alongside negotiations concerning other players, notably Gabriel Martinelli and Ethan Nwaneri, possibly moving to Turkey as part of a broader exchange between the clubs.
Osimhen Emerges as Arsenal's New Target
After hitting obstacles pursuing other key signings, including Atletico Madrid’s refusal to sell Julian Alvarez, Arsenal have shifted focus towards Osimhen. At 27, the striker has been linked with a move to England for some time but had not made the leap until now.
Multiple Transfers in Play Between Clubs
- Galatasaray reportedly placed a €45m (£38.4m) bid for Gabriel Martinelli, though the Brazilian winger appears reluctant to join the Turkish league.
- Ethan Nwaneri, the 19-year-old Arsenal prospect, is also involved in talks, with Arsenal proposing a €40m (£34.1m) fee for the youngster's potential transfer to Galatasaray.
Support from John Obi Mikel and Champions League Ambitions
"I think we want to see him in the Champions League so maybe Arsenal might be the destination. Maybe there is a door open there for Victor," said Chelsea legend John Obi Mikel, a compatriot of Osimhen. He also noted, "He is working to make sure he ends up at a top European league where he can showcase his talent and compete to win the Champions League."
Mikel was involved in Chelsea's unsuccessful attempt to sign Osimhen in 2024 and remains vocal about the striker's desire to play at the highest level in Europe.
Arsenal's Shift in Transfer Strategy
The Gunners' interest signals a change since 2024 when they passed on Osimhen due to high costs from Napoli. Manager Mikel Arteta seeks a reliable goal scorer, and Osimhen’s success at Galatasaray combined with his ambition to play in England aligns with Arsenal’s goals.
