Aston Villa Secure Mbaye in €55m Deal
Aston Villa have landed one of Europe’s most coveted teenagers, striking a deal worth €55m with Paris Saint-Germain for winger Mbaye in a move that underlines the club’s growing ambition under Unai Emery.
The agreement matches PSG’s valuation, with the transfer now being finalised and paperwork in motion. It is a heavyweight deal, and one that leans heavily on relationships at the very top of the game.
Villa chairman Nassef Sawiris’ strong ties with PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi helped smooth the negotiations and close a move that many clubs wanted but only one pushed over the line.
Liverpool were among the leading contenders earlier in the summer, tracking Mbaye as a long-term attacking option. Villa simply moved faster and with more conviction, stepping in decisively to secure a player who fits Emery’s tactical blueprint.
Emery gets a winger who can press, carry the ball at speed and hurt teams in transition. Villa get a signing that feels like a landmark.
From Versailles to Paris – and now Birmingham
Mbaye’s rise has been rapid. He joined PSG from FC Versailles 78 in the summer of 2018 and climbed through the academy ranks at pace, breaking into the first team as a 16-year-old.
He made his senior debut for the French champions in August 2024, and by then PSG already saw him as one of the jewels of their youth system.
Across his time in the first team, Mbaye has made 42 appearances, scoring four goals and providing four assists. Last season brought three goals and two assists in 31 games in all competitions, a solid return for a teenager fighting for minutes in one of the most competitive squads in Europe.
He also etched his name into club history, becoming the youngest player ever to start a competitive fixture for PSG. Ten Ligue 1 starts and a Champions League start underline that this is not just a prospect, but a player already trusted on the big stage.
A Senegal star in the making
Internationally, Mbaye’s path has been just as striking. After representing France at youth level, he switched allegiance to Senegal and made his debut for the African champions in November 2025.
He has already collected 15 caps, playing a prominent role in Senegal’s 2025 Africa Cup of Nations triumph. The winger featured in six matches during that tournament, a key part of a side that went all the way.
The World Cup stage did not faze him either. At the 2026 tournament, Mbaye started three games and scored against France on June 16 – a symbolic moment given his earlier ties to Les Bleus and PSG.
Villa are not just buying potential. They are buying a player already hardened by international football at the highest level.
Villa’s bold rebuild gathers pace
This transfer window has turned into a full-scale reset at Aston Villa. Mbaye is set to join a long list of new arrivals, with the club already making eight signings and Nicolas Jackson expected to become the ninth.
The churn has been dramatic at the other end of the squad as well. Morgan Rogers has departed for Chelsea in a £117m deal, while Ollie Watkins has left for Al Hilal, stripping Villa of a key source of goals and creativity.
Those exits demanded a response. Mbaye is part of it.
Villa’s recruitment drive is starting to look less like a simple refresh and more like a redefinition of what the club wants to be in the Emery era: younger, quicker, more aggressive, and comfortable at European level.
For a teenager who has already handled the glare of PSG, the Africa Cup of Nations and a World Cup, the stage at Villa Park will feel like the next natural step. The question now is not whether Mbaye is ready for the Premier League.
It is how quickly he can help drag Aston Villa to the level they clearly believe they belong.
