Aston Villa Signs Aaron Wan-Bissaka from West Ham
Aston Villa have agreed a deal to bring West Ham defender Aaron Wan-Bissaka to the Midlands, adding another bold move to a relentless summer window.
The DR Congo right-back is set to join on an initial loan with an obligation to buy at the end of the season. Wan-Bissaka has been granted permission to travel for a medical, with only the final details left to be completed. The exact structure of the agreement remains under wraps, though West Ham had previously been pushing interested clubs towards a £25m fee.
At 28, Wan-Bissaka has sat out West Ham’s opening two Championship fixtures while talks progressed, his absence underlining how advanced negotiations had become.
West Ham's Summer Sales
West Ham’s summer has already been defined by major sales. Mateus Fernandes has gone to Tottenham for £85m and Crysencio Summerville has followed him out of the door in a £60m deal. Captain Jarrod Bowen, though, has committed his future to the club by signing a new contract, a crucial anchor in a dressing room that has seen significant change.
Aston Villa's Business
On the other side of the deal, Villa’s business has been just as eye-catching.
The Midlands club sanctioned one of the window’s headline departures when Morgan Rogers joined Chelsea for £117m, a sale that helped drive Villa’s net spend to the lowest in the Premier League. Even after heavy investment, they sit at around £110m net once outgoings are factored in.
That figure tells only part of the story. Villa have reshaped the spine of their squad. Midfielders Johan Manzambi and Joao Gomes have arrived to add energy and control in the centre of the pitch. Chelsea winger Alejandro Garnacho has come in on a loan with an obligation to buy, injecting pace and directness in wide areas. Highly rated young centre-back Modou Keba Cisse has also been added, a nod to both the present and the future.
Now comes Wan-Bissaka, a specialist right-back known for his one‑v‑one defending and recovery tackles. If the medical goes to plan and the obligation to buy kicks in as expected, Villa will have locked in another high-profile piece of a squad that looks increasingly built for a long, demanding season at the top end of the table.
