That stance immediately pushed the spotlight onto Arsenal. If Atlético would not deal with Barcelona, the logic went, perhaps the Premier League champions could swoop in and take advantage of the stalemate.
They tried. Álvarez said no.
Barcelona or nothing

It never came.

Even after Atlético’s public stance, Álvarez is understood to be holding out for a move to Camp Nou. His camp is prepared to push as hard as possible to make that switch happen, even if it means turning down a project that, on paper, looks tailor‑made for a forward of his profile in England.
For now, he has made his position brutally simple: he does not want Arsenal. He wants Barcelona.
A standoff with no easy exit
The problem is that desire alone will not crack Atlético’s resolve.
Inside the Metropolitano, the message has been consistent. They will not sell Álvarez to a direct domestic rival. The club believes Barcelona have shown a lack of respect throughout the saga and have responded by closing the door completely on any deal with them.
That leaves Álvarez stuck in the middle of a political fight he cannot win on his own. He has made his choice clear; his employers have made theirs even clearer.
Barcelona, reading the room, have already started to adjust. The Catalan club are understood to be preparing a Plan B that does not involve signing another striker in this window, a quiet acknowledgment that prising Álvarez away from Atlético is drifting out of reach.

If Atlético refuse to budge, Álvarez could find himself with only one realistic outcome: staying put until at least January, still at a club he is ready to leave, still waiting for the move he wants and the one his current employers refuse to entertain.
For now, his stance has not shifted an inch. It is Barcelona or nothing. And for all the noise, all the money, and all the power of the Premier League, that league holds no appeal to him at all.
